If girls aren't treated with respect, that media manipulates them like dolls, then where is the feminism gone?? I know medias are terrible with the way they want us to be but on the other side, if we were that unhappy with all that crap, I think it would have been a long time since we brought back feminism on the table. But if we don't it must be because the majority of girls is happy with it and only a couple of us won't do a difference today in changing the way people think.

I think girls are shortchanged but nowadays, any form of prejudice is generally more subtle than it would've been, say, a decade ago. It's the same logic as institutionalized racism, really. People say women aren't treated as inferiors but in a way, that's how they're portrayed in magazines and on TV. And I'm not blaming the guys but I bet you 90% of the media is controlled by men and it's usually the men with strong sexual urges that like to put naked women in porno mags (e.g. Hugh Heffner). Similarly they're probably the ones to harbor the notion that women are still vulnerable and dependent on men. We might live in the 21st century but a lot of sh*t still happens behind closed doors to women and we don't always know about it, such as women being told that 'their place is in the kitchen'. On a global scale, not all women have gained equality and no doubt a lot of countries are still lagging behind in terms of this. But back to the media, I agree with Keaton that it is largely to blame. A lot of rap videos and reality TV shows seem to promote this culture where it is acceptable to treat women as sex objects. Not that there will be any drastic improvements regarding this in the future. A leopard never changes its spots and it's an instrinsic flaw in humanity but hey, being aware of the problem is better than being ignorant of it.

    Don't you mean THEY?

The only thing that I think anyone is short changed in is sex. If a guy has sex with 20 different girls he's considered a 'pimp'. If a girl sleeps with 20 differen't guys she's a slut. That's just how the world is though.

    I'm glad i'm a guy.

Dude, you gotta get that published somewhere.

On the subject of everyone, even the "rebels" following a media icon, you're completely right. People make such a big deal about "posers" and "being unique" but most of the time when you ask them what they mean by unique they say "Well, they dress just like everyone else." To this I think: So how you dress is what makes you unique? What BS.

On the subject of who gets shortchanged, I say girls do 'cause guys don't have to deal with "that time of the month."

Seriously though, I think it's pretty equal. On one side of things, there aren't many girls in politics, especially higher up. And for younger girls there's the "sex object" thing which I don't need to get into because people above me have laid out my argument.

But think about this: A girl can wear pants, dresses, makeup, jewelery, whatever and no one really makes a big deal about it. If a guy were to wear a skirt, or even just eyeliner, he would be a "gay" and a "freak."

Although personally I don't know why a guy would want to wear a skirt 'cos I find them damn uncomfortable, but y'know that's just me.

I don't see many guys wearing skirts, but it's increasingly common to see them wear make-up and still, I don't think they get as much flak as girls do for sleeping around.

It's sad that girls are judged in an area where guys are not, but if a guy DOES sleep around, the term "manwhore" springs to mind in my book.

Women are far more shortchanged than men are, I think. If I was a woman, I’d be pissed off that some weird guy who slacks on the job gets paid more than I do when I do twice as much work...

...then again, I am not your typical male who thinks he’s a hardass and rules the world, either.

Girls are definately shortchanged. They have to have kids, and their body restricts them from doing many things that men can. As a male, I can easily say that we have it way easier than girls, and to be completely honest. That isn't fair to them.
