A lot of news. Firstly, Grene Day have been playing local shows showing off their new album. Two have passed and one more is tonight. In these shows, they play the entirety of 21st Century Breakdown, which is better than American Idiot according to folks who've attended. They've been tight on security so there hasn't been many leaks, but these 2 songs have been taped in full:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYU9wGKoS34 - Murder City
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQxyxHvlxCY - Viva La Gloria

And they are pretty damn good, especially Viva La Gloria.

Other than that, the Know Your Enemy single comes out on 16th with the video to follow on the 24th. Oh, and GD posted lyrics to the entire (large!) album on their newly designed website. http://www.greenday.com/site/news.php

As of those two songs and the clip of Know Your Enemy, I'm really looking forward to this album.

As per Green Day's official website, this tracklisting is incorrect. This is the real tracklisting:

    Act I: Heroes and Cons
    01. Song of the Century
    02. 21st Century Breakdown
    03. Know Your Enemy
    04. ¡Viva La Gloria!
    05. Before the Lobotomy
    06. Christian's Inferno
    07. Last Night on Earth

    Act II: Charlatains and Saints
    08. East Jesus Nowhere
    09. Peacemaker
    10. Last of the American Girls
    11. Murder City
    12. ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl)
    13. Restless Heart Syndrome

    Act III: Horseshoes and Handgrenades
    14. Horseshoes and Handgrenades
    15. The Static Age
    16. 21 Guns
    17. American Eulogy
    a) Mass Hysteria
    b) Modern World
    18. See the Light

Song of the Century was missing, no idea what happened to "Drama Queen," and American Eulogy is a 2-part song.

I read all the lyrics and there are going to be some controversy about some vocabulary used I think. Owell. Green Has been playing the entire alum live while passing out out booklets with artwork and lyrics I've read,, lyrics are on their main site.

Also there's going to be an American Idiot Play, maybe its like a live version of pink floyd's The Wall. I dunno but it sounds interesting.

Anyway from all I've heard from the Album I really like it.

This is becoming one of my most anticipated albums of the year. I'm loving all I've heard so far.

MUCH better. That's what I like to hear. the Know Your Enemy clip didn't fill me with much hope, but these two songs are great. Now I'm excited again.

Meh, they didn't get in too much trouble for screaming "Faggot America" a few years back. I doubt they'll stir up much trouble.

The full line was "Maybe I'm the faggot, America", so put within context that lyric probably shouldn't have been particularly offensive anyway. At worst it's basically calling the regime of the time homophobic, which didn't seem to be a very uncommon criticism.

But yeah, after skimming over some of the lyrics they don't seem much more offensive than they've been before. They're also not particularly good imo, coming from a band that are usually pretty capable of writing smart lyrics.

True, but then again, who the hell actually bothers to put things into context these days?

And yeah, I expected the lyrics would be pretty awful, though hopefully the music itself will balance it out.

Well, it's in quotations so it's not like they're saying it themselves. Yeah, doesn't sound all that convincing, but you guys know what it means.

Also, the lyrics for most of the album are some of their best, dunno what you guys were expecting.

Well, my dad is black but in the context the words don't really bother me. I don't think they were meaning to be derogatory put just put those words in there because its what one of the characters in the album says.

I'm sure Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will have a field day with it, because as we all know, only black people are allowed to use the N word, regardless of what context it's in.

Randy goes on Wheel of Fortune and the puzzle is N_GGERS. Correct answer is naggers, he says nigger.

    The day after;

    All relevant. :)

"Know Your Enemy" is now on iTunes and probably on every torrent site out there. But you can listen to it here.

I'm listening to it now and I think it's good. I am hoping the rest of the album will be better though.

    Check out the youtube links.

Know Your Enemy seems to me like the introductory song to the record's sound and theme just like American Idiot. AI wasn't the best song off the record, but did an apt job of introducing the record's concept and direction. Know Your Enemy, while still a great catchy song, seems to follow the same pattern.
