This. It's pretty easy to distinguish between a concept album with longer pieces of music and an actual "rock opera". In some cases the use of the word "opera", if you're going purely by the definition of a classical opera, makes for a slight misnomer but I digress. I made my last post using the track summary from AP as my basis, though. It's just speculation.
Insomniac > Dookie > American Idiot > Warning > Kerplunk > Nimrod > Shenanigans > Pre-Kerplunk stuff Dean's irreverence towards Insomniac is sickening.
I can't believe Dookie ranks so low on both of your lists. That album was one of Green Day's best if you ask me. Definitely better than American Idiot.
http://fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=16770 It says if you scroll down that the first single will be "Know Your Enemy" and will be released around April 20th.
I have yet to listen to it. It's just one song though. I'm sure it won't reflect the overall tone of the album. At least I hope not, lol.
It sounds a lot like the American Idiot stuff, which is to be expected and is actually what I hoped for, but the lyrics man, the "raised by bastards", the "Raised in the barnyards of heroes and cons", the "From Mexico to the Berlin Wall Homeland security could kill us all"... It's all incredibly, astonishingly corny, and is confirming my fear that this entire album will be, lyrically, all the worst parts of American Idiot tenfold...
Most of the media outlets seem to think the new song just leaked this week, it actually leaked way back on like February 20th. It's also supposedly not the final version of the track.
This is the only one that's been leaked that wasn't immediately pulled. New to me. Anyway, I don't see how the final version will be too much different other than being more polished. The American Idiot feel and trying-to-hard-to-be-Springsteen lyrics would probably remain intact.
It's not a great song by any means, but seems to be one of the St. Jimmy/Homecoming type tracks in terms of its quality in proportion to the rest of the album. Of course, I have no basis to say that but that's what I think haha. Yes, I know it's the title track but it's not even the first single so I don't think they want it to be the first impression. This song is really growing on me.
