Yep Zelda too. It seems that the epic games with the great storylines are really what survive the test of time. Which makes sense. Graphics will always be improved, but theres no garauntee that a better storyline will be written.
Problem is, in most cases, the graphics improve and the storyline gets forgotten. It's like most games suck but you play them for the looks ( kinda like FFXII...it's a good game...but the story sucks.)
I never thought I'd be saying this, but lately, I've been getting sick and tired of all these FF7 fans ranting and raving about it being the best video game evar... I mean, I played through the whole game within a month of release, but it's nothing to foam over about. Maybe it's just that I thought it was such a great game, and now Squenix is milking the franchise for all that I loved. All these new FF7 games just kind of taint my memories of the game. Another thing I'd like to point out is how everyone is talking about how graphics are exceeding storylines and plot when FFVII at the time was accused of being overly indulgent with eyecandy and FMVs.
It's a weird situation, and I agree. Vice City and San Andreas are definately better games. But III was the first, and a new experience. It was so mindblowingly awesome at the time. You kind of knew what to expect with the rest so while they were great games, the enjoyment wasn't as high as with III.
Don't laugh at me, but my favorite game is still the original Super Mario Bros. I love retro games though, so that might be why. Resident Evil 4, GTA series and Kingdom Hearts series are up there too.
The Greatest Video game, meaning post one game? If so then: Fable I once played the game for 24 hours straight, off line and was not bored in the slightest.
