Got Something You Want To Let Out Part 2

Yesterday started off great. It was a beautiful day, the weather was perfect for flying, we did a bunch of rides before the airshow, the airshow went great, and at the end of the show, Josh came to suprise me at work. I was so happy! Everyone was in a great mood.

And then, at the end of the final air act, our mock Dog Fight, our pilot Vinny Nasta was doing a stall turn at the south end of the field so he could then turn around and do the final fighter pass with the other pilot. But he stalled the plane too much, and he didn't have enough clearance below him. He spiraled into a swamp/trees below him. The paramedics that always sit on the field just in case were facing the north end of the field, and they didn't see what happened. People on the field saw it though, and started sprinting down to find him. One of our pilots started his piper cub to fly over to find him, and circled the air above where he was.
None of us knew his condition or how bad it was. All we saw was a lot of smoke billowing through the trees.
Our pilot who was in the piper cub came back, and reported what he saw. I then asked what had happened, and I was told that the fuselage was completely engulfed in flames. I asked if he knew how Vinny was. He said that if he got out, it was a freaking miracle.
We all sat around waiting, crying, panicking, while fire trucks and paramedics rushed to the area. Someone told us he was being stabilized, so we all got our hopes back up.
We still had to do our job, we had to refund over $2,000, while in tears and freaking out. People in the crowd thought it was a joke in the beginning, but they soon realized that this was NO joke.

And then we heard from the paramedics. She came over, in tears, and said that they had done all they could, but there was nothing that they could do to save him. Vinny Nasta, the best damned pilot and person we had on the airfield, is dead. He knew how much I truly admired him, but it doesn't make it any easier. One tiny mistake, and he was gone. And gone in the worst way. Crash landing, and fire.

Noone deserves something like this. Especially him. I want to wish it was someone else that died, but I can't put that on someone else. But it would make it easier to bear.

Vinny did EVERYTHING with a smile. After I boarded passengers on the plane, I would always say "Thank you Vinny! You're the man!" and he would get the hugest smile on his face. He always had a gentle face. Never once have I seen him angry. And we all loved him so much.

Things like this make us realize how damned fragile our lives are, and how much we take for granted. If he had had 300 more feet below him, he could have maneuvered out of the spiral and he would have been fine.

Rest in peace, Vinny Nasta. You'll always be in our hearts and memories.

Arlene, that's so awful. I'm really sorry that happened.

It kind of scares me because one of my best friends is going to school for flying and he's in the air every day. *shudders*

Gawd. Politics never bothered me before, but I am so god-damn sick of the hypocrisy, ignorance, racism etc surrounding this conflict with Georgia.

The Aerodrome is shut down for a few days. I hope there's a good memorial for him. I would really like to attend the funeral but it's in Long Island and I don't know how I would get there. Hopefully I can work something out.
