Your last paragraph, the chemist (what is your name by the way (if you don't mind me asking)?), is why i think Rick Rubin is the best producer for them at the moment. Rick Rubin doesn't really have a sound, so he's not really going to influence the band to go in any particular direction, just help the new sound that the band are trying to create and stop them from settling for something that sounds like something they've done before.

i just hope the band has the bigger control over the sound this time around. last time with rubin taking the reign i wasn't overjoyed with the output.

    I'm Tony. :)

Rick Rubin didn't "take the reign" per se. He helped the band to make what they wanted to make, I don't think he was all controlling about it. Just because Linkin Park are working with Rubin for a second time, that doesn't mean they're automatically gonna put out "Minutes To Midnight, Part 2".

The way I see it, the only direction they could go which would result in something radically different from the last album is ... to make something heavier and more electronic, with more rapping. And hot beatz. Somehow, they should do that ... while making sure the resemblance to "Meteora" isn't too strong.

but he did! LP were at sea when they started making MTM. all they knew was to go at a new direction and Rubin steered them towards that. i'd call that a pretty damn important task!

and just to clear up, i'm not saying that with Rubin at helm we'll get exactly another MTM. considering all the recent interviews with the band talking about how fresh and groundbreaking the new sound is, i didn't expect them to stick with Rubin.

It's just that with Rubin's taste for the raw, less layered sounding music, I just hoped they wouldn't use him again, because a lot of the sounds on MtM sounded too...empty to me.

Hopefully he sets that aside for this album though.

A lot of people are talking about Rubin as if they haven't heard any of his production. He doesn't prefer raw, less layered sounding music. The guy has no style yet encompasses them all.

Remember, he produced all of the Red Hot Chili Peppers last 5 albums. Stadium Arcadium is hella layered. Don't forget Memorize & Hypnotize, Out of Exile etc. I agree with The Chemist. He lets the artist do what they want. Meteora was over-produced so they went stripped down on M2M, not because of Rubin. It sounded better than whatever riff ladden stuff they were doing so it stuck on the record.

    Quoted for truth.

About time someone who's actually LISTENED to Rubin's work posts here. I'm not trying to attack anyone, or single anybody out by saying this...but Rick has produced a lot of famous records, some of which are not stripped down at all.

I just hope we get something with a bit more of a HT/Meteora EFFECT on me (not sound or style, just the effect the records left me with) rather than MtM.

LOL. Yeah, like we really don't care about the site. What a stupid thing to say. Please don't tell us how to do our jobs on here. We are busy with other priorities, you know. We will get to it when we can.

...And you could have worded your opinion a lot better.

Note to Derek below: I'm not editing my post.

I originally had an angrily worded post here, cause I was very offended by your statement diablorojo but...the truth is: we have been updating a lot slower lately, and it's something we're well aware of.

We will try our hardest to be on the ball more and update quicker. It's tough to update with our lives so busy, but we know a lot of you here use this site for all your LP news...and we wanna make sure it stays that way. Thank you for your continued submissions. Please keep sending them in.
