I think it's funny how everyone says a band should be themselves, yet when they do they get said they're a gimmick.(GC) Look at Chester...he changes his entire image every month.(at least back in the Hybrid Theory days)
Nope you make perfect sense. I try to find a band that is unique with their music styles, although appearance doesn't matter too much. I agree that GC capitalizes on the teen market with their image. It wouldn't matter too much but I find nothing UNIQUE or interesting with their music. It sounds like stuff done by other bands like Sum 41, Blink 182, and countless other punk, pop, and emo bands. Sure its catchy: rap is catchy too, but that doesn't mean its GOOD! :chemist: LOL I was watching a music video on Loud (Muchmusic) by Gwar. They are this metal band that dresses up in HUGE monster costumes and plays this heavy music and the singer sounds like some creature off a 70s horror flick! It was probably the funniest-looking band I have ever seen; the music was pretty good though besides that.
cutting your hair, growing sideburns and dying your hair different colors is not a gimmick at all.
No, but some people would consider a band member changing his appearance all the time a gimmick. Especially in pop music. "OMG, JUSTIN DYED HIS HAIR. LET'S GO BUY HIS CD!!!!!11"
cutting your hair, growing sideburns and dying your hair different colors is not a gimmick at all.
I personally think he changes his whole style and image a lot. :wth: Well...he did before Meteora came out. Lately he's been sticking to the same thing...just a differen't hair cut.
Not to be stupid but what did happen? I don't follow Mudvayne.
They blew up. They're pretty huge, now. Well, huge compared to a band that was underground prior to their sophomore album.
You know, that's a really interesting point. We, as fans and critics, have no real way of knowing what's a gimmick and what isn't. There are exceptions of course--when a artist's "personality" changes with the trends, that could be regarded as "gimmick"...but really, who are we, as outsiders, to judge who's real and who's fake?
