I haven't gotten a chance to play the game yet so I'll reserve my opinions. But a couple of my friends played it and beat it in a couple hours (give or take a few) and they said it was OK but that they still preferred Halo.
Do you know which mode your friends were playing on? see that's your opinion. My opinion: Call of duty's are absolutly shit and can't ever compare to the likes of Gears of War. Halo is ok but still not the greatest. Most game reviews have given GoW close to full marks if not full, even Gamespot gave GoW 9.8, VERY few games get that ever from big companies. Even E3 gave Gow nearly full marks cause they loved it so much
The 360 CoD games are awesome, but the PS2 ones are pretty poor. And yeah, although GoW is quite good I'd still rather play Halo 3 on potential alone.
I'm with you, except I actually do like the COD games a small amount. They're alright, but they get old really quick. And I've always considered Halo to be the quintessential game for non-gamers, next to The Sims franchise of games (just my opinion).
yeah i played CoD2 at my mates house and was bored with it in under a minute cause it didn't get your adrenaline going or make you feel like your actually there, and GoW does that for me. Yeah almost everyone i know owns a copy of Halo series, and it is a VERY good game and i can't wait for the 3rd one to be released, and i think i have a copy of the sims somewhere in my draws. My opinion: Cod's wern't rated anywhere close to Gow and i find it odd/annoying that people make comparisons to the games, the comparisons are that you play as the protagonist and use firearms and walk through a story, much like in Halo, xept that GoW and Halo make you feel like your their and your not sitting infront of a TV mindless.
Well, I just got an Xbox 360 last night, and it came with Call Of Duty 2, and I got Gears Of War tonight. I also happen to be a Halo fan. So, what do I think? I think Gears Of War is a Halo killer, even though it's not supposed to be. It's definately better than Halo, in terms of gameplay, overall feel and graphics. Halo was just a run and shoot game, while Gears Of War is an actual military game. You can't just run in, guns a blazin', you know. Maybe I'm bias, since both Halo's were on the original Xbox, and this game is on the 360, which is worlds beyond the original system. Hopefully, Halo 3 is a "Gears Of War killer", heh. As for Call Of Duty... it's good, in my opinion. Then again, historic games always interest me. The only thing that bugs me is I can't play as a Nazi. I would like to play a Call Of Duty type game where you're a Nazi and if you complete the game, you see the outcome of the war through that scenario. You know? The Call Of Duty franchise is just a telling of World War II and the like, it doesn't provide alternative scenarios and whatnot. EDIT: P.S. - Fuck the Berserker.
That is true, I think more of the WWII shooters should have more fork decisions that would change the outcome of battles and maybe even the entire war, for either side, allies or axis. I would be interesting to see in my opinion...
I didn't get COD for Xmas but I did get Gears of War. I will be posting my opinion of it either tonight or tommorrow.
haha Maybe it's just me, but I thought the Beserker was really easy the first few times I played it. Got it in one try... then I replayed and it was hard as heck. (I played both times on hardcore.)
I completed it in Insane mode, and the beserker is a tough bastard It curb stomps you like instantly aswell
I finally got the game today and I have to say... Gears of War totally casts a shadow over other shooters I've played recently, at least gameplay wise. The reason being is it's much more immersing as it heavily relies on you to take tactical approaches to situations rather than say, Halo's more run-n-gun type of style. I personally dig the tactical approach than the Rambo approach, so Gears of Wars does more justice for me. Though I'm a bit peeved because I got the ring of death while playing mid-cut scene, the game is solid. It takes awhile to get used to the game (is it me or does your team look a little too much like the enemy? ) as well as the whole duck-n-cover thing, but overall I'm going to say this game is a bit of a breather from the usual first person shooters. I personally want to try co-op online with someone. Just to see how it feels. It seems as if it'd be really fun to play through campaign with a friend. Btw, I will never get tired of the chainsaw...
Keaton, I'd totally take you up on the Online Co-op, hah. I haven't played much of the campaign because Rainbow Six has been ruling my life. I'm only, like, 30 minutes in.
i love this game, my dad got a 360 yesterday with oblivion and Gears Of War.....GoW is addicting its so fun and the in-game videos are bout the same graphics as the actual gameplay..jus a lil better but with gameplay that close..its amazing
I played the multiplayer at my friends house a couple days ago, and I have to say I find it way more interesting than Halo, although it's harder.
