Yeah, honestly, not much in this one for me. Catchy and that's about it. I especially dislike the drums. Kinda like Cut the Bridge, very in-your-face but not all that interesting. Also, the guitars feel so muddy? EDIT: alright, guitars are at least partially down to YouTube quality.
Although I don’t care for the track all that much I will always appreciate the band for releasing new music. Obviously looking forward to the other two tracks but more eagerly anticipating the next phase for the band outside of the “we’re back” phase of the band. FZ is a great album but I’m very much hoping for a riskier and less conventional album for LP’s standards next go around. Longer and maybe a bit more complex songs. A hybrid of ATS and HP would be my dream . I’ll say hints of that are on FZ but the songs are over before they can really breathe imo.
I really like the song and video! My only criticism would be that they both don't really bring anything new into the FZ era and feel kinda 'safe'. I do hope the other two new songs take more risks. Other than that, I'm very happy with this release!
I'm willing to bet a few of the mid reaction will change their opinion through time. It's not a landmark track or anything like that, but it's just so goddamn catchy. It'll stick in your head. And before you know it, you may compulsively go back to it
Love the song, the album sets and the vid! Watched it with my son this morning for our first listen which is now a new tradition since HITC I guess Just wondering where this sudden fro came from... it must be the mustard
Yeah. I wouldn’t expect anything more boundry pushing for a while now. We are still very much in the comeback phase. Comebacks are all about reminding people why they liked the band in the first place. Plus, they’re obviously still having a really great time reliving that old sound. Now with LP 9, it could be different, but honestly I’m expecting it to be a Meteora to From Zero’s Hybrid Theory.
This wouldn't surprise me either. I'd love some more abstract experimentation, but the band has found their most commercially successful sound in nearly two decades. Normally, they would pivot immediately after an album's release and Up From the Bottom would wind up on an LPU down the road (which I can't really even say "normally", because the last true 'B-Side' they released before Friendly Fire was I Have Not Begun). More importantly, the band isn't afraid of sounding like Hybrid Theory anymore. They're leaning into what made them great in the first place. And not to say they want to "sell out", but they also sadly aren't getting any younger at this stage in their career. Why not capitalize while you can?
The band is obviously having a blast enjoying a 2nd youth, and that whole lot of fun translates to the music so much. Is it the most boundary-breaking, listener-challenging music they've made? Not by a stretch. But it - and the music of the FZ era in general - is arguably the most adrenaline-packed, energy-full, catchy, fun music they've released in a very long time. Speculation-wise, I've phrased it before, but, while I do think LP9 may turn out a bit more alternative than FZ (some more hip hop, some more ballads, etc), I more or less also believe it'll be an extension of FZ before anything else. Still different, but nothing too crazy. Don't see the band doing a huge curve ball just yet, not before LP10. But who knows, just wild guesses here ^^'.
It’s hard to say what LP 9 will be after FZ. It can literally be anything at this point. It can be more of the same or unfamiliar territory. Every album has its own identity minus Meteora imo. The identity of FZ to me is a culmination of every album prior. It’s still incredible it even saw the light of day. But I will say, me personally, if LP 9 is FZ 2 like Meteora was Hyprid Theory 2 more or less, I’ll be less than thrilled. Happy for the band to continue doing what they love, but disappointed as a fan none the less. I just would love nothing more for the band to continue exploring and to move past what’s been done before. So many bands from the nu metal era are stale compared to LP cause their sound more or less stayed the same from their debut. Anyway back to the song, as others have said the song grows on you, honestly what LP song doesn’t grow on you with repeated listens lol. The song is still a bit too cookie cutter though especially the chorus for me. It’s a decent b-side as it were or underground track tho
One thought I had is that I really wish this deluxe edition had performances of Overflow and Good Things Go, even if I understand they only included 2024 performances and that this has been in the works for a few months now. I suppose it’s OK though since they will most likely release a live album with the concert film they recorded.
Finally watched the UFTB video for a second time, and my favourite part is definitely when the band rocks out during the bridge which I guess isn't surprising
The song grew on me a bit but it's exttemely mid, sounds like one of the weaker PT songs mixed with 2010 Paramore, not a fan of the track. Glad you guys enjoy it
One new song, two more on the way, 2 pages of discussion ?! Can't wait 2028 for LP to drop a controversial trap/blues/pop album, reviving the long missed flamed wars of the 2010's release cycles
I've got a feeling this comment is going to age like fine wine. Edit : damnit double-post, didn't see I was the latest poster in this thread
