Thanks, Derek. Looking back, it's kind of crazy that I brushed them off as I did... Never would I have thought that I was actually listening to my future favorite band. I wasn't one of those kids growing up that got off on listening to only underground/unsigned bands. I think that's why I didn't put very much effort into liking them until they became Linkin Park and I heard them on the radio. I was 15 at the time, so I was very much into the mainstream alternative rock on the radio. I still had the mindset that "If it's not on the radio, then there is a reason it's not on the radio." I'm glad my mindset has since changed. As Mark Hoppus once said, "Well I guess this is growing up."
i was 10 and I'm from a very Hip-Hop/Reggae family but my older brother showed me In The End on the TV and was like "even though its got guitars and its rock, he still raps which is cool" (he's forgotten this conversation now) and I remember always liking that song. The next time I heard them was the Numb/Encore with Jay-Z because I was really into Jays Black album at the time. Then around the time what i've done came out i heard that and papercut and that went onto my playlist. But it was only really the Day A Thousand Suns came out i finally broke out of the clichéd thought of thinking they were a "grunger" band (as i would've thought back then). I remember seeing it on the internet as a "concept album" and It honestly blew me away like nothing I've ever heard before. So I purchased Hybrid Theory and was on/off with it at first but I got Meteora and Midnights to Midnight like early this year and I've really only listened to them since. Then I found the LPU, and got all the undergorund CDs, the HTEP, the rising tied, out of ashes, like just basically became obsessed with everything they do/have done, watching all their videos, documentarys, interviews etc. Thats why i'm so new here lol
I can honestly tell you that your fun ride of getting to know Linkin Park is still far from over. I guarantee you that there is still stuff out there that you haven't heard and that more will come your way as you dive deeper into LP Fan hysteria There just always seems to be more
