Who are your favorite lead singers of bands based on voice? My favorites: Tom DeLonge (Blink-182, Box Car Racer, Angels and Airwaves) Lauren Mayberry (Chvrches) Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) Matthew Bellamy (Muse) A lot of people could be inserted into spot #5 for me
I'll probably post more as I think of them. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth, Storm Corrosion, Bloodbath) Mikael Åkerfeldt stands as one of my favorite vocalists of all time because of the dynamic range his voice possesses. He could be crooning in his smooth Baritone voice, and then in an instance be belting some of the most deepest and evil guttural vocals your ears have ever heard. It makes Opeth's music all the most unpredicatable, which I fucking love. Some of his best Death Growls and clean singing is in Opeth's The Moor, while his falsetto at the beginning of Ljudet Innan, one of the songs off of Storm Corrosion (his collaboration with Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson) is absolutely gorgeous. Freddie Mecury (Queen) Need I say anything at all? MC Ride a.k.a. Stefan Burnett (Death Grips) He's one of the most interesting rappers in the game I've heard in a long ass time. He sounds like a cazy-ass screaming hobo. It complements the music perfectly. Recommended tracks: On GP, Inanimate Sensation, No Love.
Gibs, your post just reminded me that I forgot Steven Wilson. He would definitely be high up there for me.
- Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) - Dan Smith (Bastille) - A very controversial choice: Danny from Hollywood Undead. Say what you will about the band, but Danny is still a really good singer. I'll add more later. These were just the first that came to mind.
Ian Kenny from Karnivool and Birds of Tokyo is definitely one of my favs. Aurelio Voltaire would be another. Ignoring the odd material he sings about, he has a very good voice. Mike Patton from Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Peeping Tom etc... Provided he is not the writer of the song. I hate his solo writing but damn he has a hell of a range. Darroh from Fair to Midland. Again, great range. Delivered everytime I saw them live. And one time he had a cold. Sahaj Ticotin from Ra. I don't really have a main reason why I love his vocals, but I do. Plus he was in the Guinness World Records for a while.
1. Chester Bennington (Linkin Park, Dead By Sunrise, Stone Temple Pilots) [duh.] 2. Chris Martin (Coldplay) 3. Brandon Flowers (The Killers) 4. Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (The Hives) 5. Isaac Slade (The Fray) or Damian Kulash (OK Go)
Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) Dustin Kensrue (Thrice/Solo Projects) Dallas Green (Alexisonfire/City and Colour) Benjamin Kowalewicz (Billy Talent)
So I know at LEAST two of my choices are going to be hated Brendon Urie - (Panic! at the Disco) Steven Tyler - (Aerosmith) Chester Bennington - (Linkin Park) Matty Mullins - (Memphis May Fire) Chris Martin - (Coldplay) Rou Reynolds - (Enter Shikari)
Besides some of the ones mentioned... Rody Walkers - Protest The Hero Tommy Karevik - Seventh Wonder, Kamelot, Ayreon Maynard James Keenen - Tool, A Perfect Circle Tim Mcilrath - Rise Against, The Killing Tree
I don't see why any of your choices would get hated. I'm not a fan of Brendon Urie really but I can respect it.
Brendon and Matty generally get the most hate of any of them. Brendon really surprised me, I didn't know he was a such a good singer until I saw him live.
Here are some of my choices; in no particular order: Chester Bennington (LP, Dead By Sunrise) Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari) Tim Mc Illrath (Rise Against, The Killing Tree) Dustin Kensrue (Thrice) Spencer Chamberlain (Underoath, Sleepwave), Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, The Almost), Dallas Taylor (ex-Underoath, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster) Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) James Hetfield (Metallica) Dallas Green (Alexisonfire, City & Colour, You+Me) Matty Mullins (Memphis May Fire) Josh Scogin (The Chariot, 68) Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem, The Horrible Crowes) Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die) Sam Carter (Architects) Gustav Wood (Young Guns)
