Rohan, I'm thankful there aren't many people that think the way you do nowadays. Miuns Xero, dude, you're a freakin genius at words!
Sexism: 1. Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women. 2. Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender. Sexist: adj : discriminatory on the basis of sex (usually said of men's attitude toward women) n : a man with a chauvinistic belief in the inferiority of women [syn: male chauvinist] (grammar corrected by me) Example of discrimination based on gender, and attitude that promotes stereotyping of social roles. Sounds like someone is stereotyping social roles. Of course there are things women can do that men can't. Give birth. Multiple climaxes. (just in case there's a younger audience around ) But on to the point, you just have to accept a fact that females are emerging as a prominent force in metal and music in general. I'd like to see male vocalists go back and forth from the high and low notes like Amy Lee can. Not to mention the female voice has so much about it. It's generally more soothing than the male voice and can be louder and more intense as well (some of us would know ). A bunch of women chanting strange demonic chants sounds freakier than a bunch of men. And going back to your Black Sabbath example, of course it'd sound wierd because you're used to BS being fronted by a guy. And it'd sound different with a female fronting it because since women tend to be more creative, there'd probably be a subtle (or even not so subtle) difference in style. Hell, it might have even been better.
Okay I apologise.I didn't know that people on this forum can get so ruthless when it comes to defending their points that they can even go and rape someone. So please lets bury the hatchet. *waves white flag* :wth:
personally,i don't like evanescence's music.Lee's voice is nice, but i've heard better.. i also find "fallen" a boring album. all the songs are veeeery similar to each other. same drums, same guitars in every track.. i mean,it's natural for the songs of any album to have a particular style, but evanescence have no creativity at all... they're nothing special musicaly. their big commercial success is based(in my opinion)on lee's warm voice and good looks. (and i don't mean that she's using her looks in order to help evanescence succeed, although she's the most exposed member of the band).. it also gets on my nerves when i read in her interviews that evanescence play atmospheric/epic/goth e.t.c metal...!! gimme a break.. even my grandmother can listen to the "heavy"evanescence stuff.. I don’t say that only heavy music rocks, but if she believes these words, then something's wrong with her.. I think that they've only brought to the mainstream the "dark" style (and when i say "style",i mean everything but the music...)which was never catchy or that commercially successful because it was usually followed by really heavy music… but then again, that's just my opinion female fronted bands i like:lacuna coil, nightwish, otep
Look up some of their earlier stuff... before they were commercialized, as it were. And I'm sorry, I don't see the similar song thing, I thought Hello was a chilling piece and the chanting on Whisper is haunting as well.
No Doubt, Killing Heidi, Garbage and i could go on for a long while. Evanescence just happened to be popular in the same way LP was with their debut. Their success will die over time IMO.
