It's a great album, a solid 8/10, but doesn't come near Viva La Vida for me. Poppy songs like Paradise and Princess of China I didn't like too much to begin with, but they're growing on me. Charlie Brown, Us Against The World, Hurts Like Heaven and Don't Let It Break Your Heart are highlights and should translate really well live. Some of the tracks like Up In Flames and U.F.O. feel a like cuts from the stripped down album MX was supposed to be, but feel a little misplaced beside the pop mechanics of the songs they're sandwiched in. That makes it feel more like a collection of songs than an album, despite the nice transitions. Coldplay might not take top spot for me this year.
So has anyone else noticed the similar ideology/concept of MX with ATS? Both are concept albums that detail destruction in the midst of chaos and a sliver of hope. And directly quoted from Coldplay "the beauty of the destruction". I mean there's probably even more similarities...I just haven't listened to the story yet
So far, I like what I've heard. I've listened up to" Us Against The World" and hope I can finish it after work.
Yeah, I've listened to about half of it, and it is surprisingly good. I don't expect too much out of Coldplay either.
It is really good! Loving almost all the songs. Definitely one of the year's best. Btw, is anyone else picking up a strong Sigur Ross/Jonsi vibe from it?
I loved the Paradise video. It has that goofy vibe while also being extremely powerful at the same time. Also, Coldplay were on Colbert a few nights ago. "Paradise" http://www.colbertnation.com/the-co...ober-20-2011/sign-off---coldplay----paradise- "Up in Flames" http://www.colbertnation.com/the-co...20-2011/exclusive---coldplay----up-in-flames-
Paradise is the catchiest song of this year. I can't stop myself from humming it and/or get it out of my head!
Geez, what were they thinking with that video? I have to say, this album grew on me quite a bit with multiple listens, but I would still put it in second place under VLV and above X&Y in terms of album rating.
I don't have time for a super awesome long review, but I adore their new record. Really. My favorites are probably Paradise, Us against the world, Major Minus, Princess of China
Totally Loving Mylo Xyloto. Since my Amazon Package came on Friday, i've been listening to this and Noels non-stop. Viva La Vida is still their best one, but this is up there with Rush. 8/10
You are very lucky. Though I started this thread, it seems like I may be the last one to hear the album.
I didn't like that first single, but Paradise sounds great...Love the short solo near the end. Well, I better check out the rest of the album.
