I'm a Coldplay-fan who also likes Linkin Park/Fort Minor. But my question is: Does a LinkinPark-fan likes Coldplay?
I think Coldplay is one of the most boring bands in the world. I'm not saying that because everyone likes them, I'm saying that because I literally become tired when I listen to them. They're great musicians, but they don't make great music.
I agree with Will. They show they have the potential to be a really good band in some of their songs but I think they've became a little too comfortable with being the biggest band in the world to take risks.
Coldplay is one of my favorite bands. Their b-sides are perhaps the best discarded music ever made. X&Y may have been too-over hyped and over-produced, but the band has a multitude of talent. Don't Panic has been, and will continue to be, my official favorite song.
Coldplay are great. I love how epic some of their songs are, namely "Warning Sign" and "The Scientist". You need to be in the mood to listen to them, though. A meloncholy one at that.
I'm not really that big on Coldplay, but "A Rush of Blood to the Head" is an amazing cd. Not much of a fan of their other material though. They're decent. Just like Mark said, I have to be in the right mood to listen to them.
What she said. I just can't get into them. I'm not a big fan of Chris Martin's voice either, sometimes I question myself if he can actually sing.
How on earth? They didn't even make it big in 2000 with Yellow. One could say they didn't break the mainstream until "A Rush Of Blood To The Head". Personally, in 2000, I think Eminem "saved" music. His raps were gritty and real, and they were being played in the streets, MTV, VH1, and every other place. It changed the focus from boy-bands and pop princesses to real music. Coldplay is good, but Yellow or "Parachutes" hardly made a dent in the music industry.
Eminem saved rap music. As for Coldplay, Parachutes just got bigger overtime. I would say the album was at its height right before AROBTTH came out. Then they released three consicutive successful singles with In My Place, The Scientists, and Clocks.
Rap music was fine before 2000 came along. Eminem saved mainstream music. Coldplay definately did change some things, but not with the release of Parachutes, that's for sure.
I never said Parachutes was a style that had never been done before. If I did, I didn't mean it. All I'm saying is that with Parachutes, Coldplay gave people an alternative.
To what? There's always been an alternative out there. And I never said anything about the style of Parachutes. In 2000, Britney Spears and N*SYNC were popular. There were alternatives. Yeah, Coldplay was one. So was this little band called Linkin Park.
That's arguable. As an LP fan, I can't say they aren't good. But they weren't exactly the first band to provide the "alternative" of Nu-Metal. I suppose they did lead the movement, so in that sense, I guess you're right about LP being an alternative too. But I just think Coldplay were really unique at that time. And they didn't try to make their music accessible or anything.
