I swear to you all I'm not a troll. I honestly hear Friday in that song, lyrically speaking that is. I just have no tolerance for electropop.
Actually I was referring more to this genre (I dunno what you call it, I've been calling it electropop): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re2FQZK54oA That said, the above song sounds very Death Cab...I like it.
Well, The Postal Service is the side project of the lead singer of Death Cab. Ah, Justin pointed it out before I did. But yeah, that's what's up.
If you're really going to compare Rebecca Black to a respectable band, then I will call you a troll. Yes, the song has an electro-beat throughout, but let's go ahead and put any artist who has ever used that on the same level as generic pop like Kesha and Katy Perry, why don't we. Not to mention the other instrumentalization, or the fact that the song doesn't even have a chorus. Very generic pop indeed.
But then you are using troll in the wrong sense, seeing as he didn't do it to cause controversy but as just a simple comparison to how he feels about the song.
Bro, he was definitely not trolling. I even think it's a fair comparison honestly. Viva La Vida is way better IMO.
Not to mention some of the teenage girl lyrics in this song. I'm not saying this sounds just like any other mainstream pop out there, I'm just saying it sounds like the Coldplay version. Also, it may not have a chorus, but musically it's pretty standard. Builds with a simple electronic synth, a bass thump comes in on every down beat, a chord change at around 2:30 which serves the basic purpose of a bridge, before returning to the music from before with the "every teardrop is a waterfall" chant. I'm not writing their new music off or anything, this is just a lead single and it sounds like one in 2011. It has a catchy electronic beat, relatable lyrics about your heart beating to your favorite song (lolz how sweet) and it serves its purpose. Coldplay just seems like more of an artsy band, so I was not expecting something like this, and it was disappointing.
THANK you. I was only giving my opinion. Also this: I didn't mean that it sounded like a club hip-hop band wrote it, and if it came off that way I'm sorry. What I meant was that it sounded like Coldplay decided to give the new trend a whirl, which if they want to I guess that's fine, I'm just not gonna like it/listen to it. And oddly enough the vocals in the song remind me very much of this (I don't know if anyone here is familiar with Mr. Kevin Moore, but he's great ): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sudz1HIvKHs
Exactly. Coldplay hasn't EEEEEEEEVER written a song with time-appropriate instrumentation and relatable lyrics. Oh wait:
They don't sound anything like Radiohead aside from some tracks on their first and second albums. And as for generic, you can judge on your own based on more recent tracks:
