Chester stated in the video interview that he only just joined the band last month.

After the Asia tour completes this summer, Linkin Park will have hit every continent except Antarctica since Living Things was released. Bands usually don't tour twice for the same album. So I'm really not sure what you're complaining about here. The only people with legitimate complaints about their lack of touring this year are penguins living at the south pole.

We should get Morgan Freeman to narrate the penguins thoughts about Linkin Park not playing in Antarctica.

So, it's beginning. Scott published yesterday a letter to his fans where he said he did not approve the band performing under the name STP. Shortly after, it appeared that....STP has filed a lawsuit against Scott Weiland. Yes, you read that right.

    More info here: http://loudwire.com/scott-weiland-chester-bennington-fronted-band-not-stone-temple-pilots/

    And here: http://loudwire.com/stone-temple-pilots-members-file-lawsuit-against-scott-weiland/

Also, if you're patient enough to read it, you have access to the entire content of the sue here:

I agree with Scott, I actually think it's a part of a copyright law that says everyone who made the work has equal rights to use any part of that work even if their contribution was minimal.
They all have the right to use the STP songs, but they should change the name because it's not the same thing without Weiland right?
It doesn't really feel the same does it?

Yes, it's obviously different, the music doesn't have the same vibe with Chester. But, on the other side, changing their name would have a very negative effect on their popularity. And, after having read the sue, it seems like Scott was not really nice to the other guys lately. So, I can understand why they don't want to sacrifice their success in order to being respectfull towards a singer who was disrespectfull towards them.

I wasn't excpecting them to sue Scott though. That's kind of sad their relations got that bad.

Scott was fired. The band should be able to do what they want without him.

This. If you're not part of the group, you definitely don't have any rights to what they do or don't do. Secondly, he acts as if he was as big a name as "Chester Bennington" during his time with STP - how many of us can even name anyone in STP aside from Chester?

Not fair. STP was a pretty big act during the 90's and Scott Weiland had its fair amount of popularity (I reckon, not as much as LP, but still, they were not a little band at all). Their popularity has simply declined over time.

Of course, that change nothing to the fact he has been fired and can't decide for the band anymore.

Doesn't he still have rights to the written work and therefore technically owns it equally whether he's in the band, out of the band, dead or alive?
lol according to law, they could both be in bands called Stone Temple Pilots, laws are messed up.

Some people think that when the vocalist leaves a band it all ends. Not necessarily. They can operate under the name.

Nightwish replaced Tarja with Annette Olson and it's still Nightwish. Not sure if 'firing' was involved but it's just a simple example of how the group can still work under the name.

STP's fans know who Scott Weiland is, just as we know who Chester Bennington is.

The average alternative, nu metal, rock AKA The Edge listener knows who Chester Bennington is - the same cannot be said for Scott Weiland. I myself knew "Chester" and "Mike" prior to ever hearing "By Myself" in 7th grade.
