Being In India i'd give u the Indian Censorship laws
    here it is quite lax.
    you can say s*hit,bit*h etc.
But you requre a parent with you when you buy a "Parental Advisory" containing album

Its not the censorship on MTV that I'm so against...they do take it way too far like taking out "hit" in 3DG and in the video for Stan, when he says that Stan and Eminem should be together, MTV censors that part out last time I saw the video. WTF? Is saying how they should be together wrong? No. Is MTV scared of all the kids seeing that, turning gay and not reporoducing and ending the world? That right there is bullshit. Let MTV do that, after all, you can usually find the entire video uncensored on the internet somewhere.

The type of censorship I can't stand is the type that retail stores (*cough* WalMart *cough*) practice. Personally, I don't want some worldwide corporation such as Wally World telling me what I can and cannot listen to, and then deny their customers the right to buy violent video games when they sell GUNS at WalMart. Not water guns, REAL guns you can use to kill someone. If the company is so afraid of violence, shouldn't they stop selling guns instead of a somewhat violent video game? Then as far as music goes, they only sell censored versions. As an 18 year old student who's been hearing cuss words since I was in 5th grade, buying a CD where they say the F word a few times is not going to harm me, so why is Wally World denying my right to buy the unedited version? Now, normally thats not a problem, when I'm at home, I have Target, Best Buy, Circuit City and little ma&pop record stores out the wazoo to get my fix of unedited music. But I'm in college in a hick town. I have 2 places to buy CDs. WalMart and Sam Goody. Well, I wont be buying from WalMart, thats for sure, then as everyone knows, Sam Goody jacks up their prices and rips you off. But then, WalMart is so religious and right wing it makes me sick. You know you'll never find a Marylin Manson CD at WalMart. Slipknot? Probably not. Green Day? Yes, you'll find Green Day there. They have Nimrod, Dookie, International Superhits. American Idiot? Nope! Apparentley the CD title is too left wing so the WalMart out here refuses to carry it. What about Sheryl Crow? What could be so bad about any of her CDs, she's just another pop singer on the soft rock station. Well one of her CDs mentioned something about a kid killing someone with a gun he bought at WalMart. Well, WalMart didn't like that and yanked her CDs off the shelf. There are towns smaller than the one I live in that have a few gas stations, fast food restauraunts and a WalMart. Thats it. WalMart is where everyone goes to buy everything. WalMarts loveley acts of censorship prevent people in these tiny towns from buying the music they want. And it sure doesn't seem fair at all.

Then there's the good 'ol FCC. Was seeing Janet Jackson's nipple at the super bowl THAT bad? Kids saw it, but its not like they're never going to see one in their life (hopefully). Hell, everyone has two. Why don't they just fine her for having her arm visible too. god forbid a child should see a bodypart everyone has. And the FCC never bothererd Howard Stern until recentley. But, since the FCC is in bed with the Bush administration, and Howard Stern was urging listeners to vote for Kerry, the FCC started going after him. The indecencey he had on his show for the past 10 years was never a problem until they disagreed politically.

There is too much censorship, they need to reduce it.

i think censorship is rediculous. i mean these things go on every day in the world. sure maybe there should be a warning...but it shouldnt be compleatly censored. i think if there as a warning b4 each show(and maybe after ad brakes) everthing would b fine. and maybe you could have certain things time specific....like when teh fam is normally watching, you don't do really crude things.

and Cds i dotn think you should have to b 17 to buy parental advisory. again there should be a warning saying what exactly is said to need a warning, but there shoudlnt be an age limit. and besides it is easy to buy the stuff w/o an ID

and in movies. if they are goign to put age limits on movies you shouldnt have to pay the adult price at 12 when you cant even go to half of the movies out. it ludicrus!!!!

I just went to Wal-Mart a few days ago and I've seen both Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses and American Idiot being carried. Maybe the mangager refuses to stock it.

Censorship is one of the most stupid things ever. If parents don't want their kids listening to stuff like that then don't let them. If littleJimmy listens to some music that his parents won't let him at his friends house then it's his parents fault for banning it from him. I see it as kids are gonna hear all this stuff at some point anyway. What's the point in hiding it from them when it so blatantly is there and it's not going to go away no matter how hard you try

Canada vs US. There's a much worse case of censorship in the states than here.

That is true. Canada has alot more uncensored things on TV than the US does. But my main point is the way that some artist have to change their songs around just to have them played on the radio. Especailly that Black Eyed Peas song, that was just stupid.

I'm pretty sure MTV wont show the video for Y'all Want a Single. You can't click it on their website (although every other video you can) and I've never seen it on MTV, even late at night.

I think its cause they flash across "One big corporation owns the 5 major music channels in the US" or something like that. Which I'm pretty sure is MTV. Cause I know they own VH1.

I'm doing a report on censorship in music, actually, for a social issues unit thing.

Hell, I didn't even know there was 5 major music channels.

    MTV, VH1, FUSE...

You can't really count MTV2, because if you do, then you'd have to count the 3 other VH1's there are aswell.

Anyways, Viacom...yeah. They own Clear Channel, don't they?

EDIT: fucking Will and his posting before me cryptically answering my question!

Censorship is a load of fluff in my opinion...Everyone's heard all the words that are being censored..so its pretty impossible to not hear a few of them everday...its just stupid..my nieces and nephew know just about as many swear words as I do... and the youngest is like 5... they hear them in school...no matter where you go people will be swearing...there's no escape from it.

    Yes.

The only reason I curse now is cause I always heard everyone curse in 3rd grade. So I've been cursing since then.
