So, uhh, how many times has this excuse been used? Five, six-hundred times since I joined this forum? From what I recall, whenever a problem has arisen between member and staff, it's been used, but worded differently. Nonetheless though, the same general idea is used: "We know what we're doing, now shut the fuck up." To put it simply, I think it's lost its desired effectiveness, at least for me.

    That's a grammar lesson, m'dear. ;)

Yeah, after I read the thread, I checked the rules and thought to myself, Hold on a minute, that's not in there. Casey shouldn't have gotten warned. At that point, I was thinking that the warning should be removed or the rule should be revised. Thank you for clearing that up, Derek.

PS: I still want to get that Me vs Staff thing resolved. Derek, so when you have the time, throw a PM my way.

    Hmm...

I don't have anything against the admins shutting down posts when they believe its crossed the line (in the case of that canninbalism thread, it clearly did). And even if it wasn't in the rules, the admins did the right thing; we should all, being humans, be intuitive enough to realize it wasn't right without the rules telling us so. Like Derek said before, there is a line we shouldn't cross, and we're all intelligent enough to know that. And the rules can't possibly cover that whole line, so we'll just have to use our intelligence and humanity sometimes. It wouldn't be fair to expect the admins to spell out all of that line for us.

With that said, the admins generally make the right choice when they choose to close a thread, in the rules or not. However, I think sometimes there's a bit more rudeness than necessary when they warn members. I was caught off guard and a little turned off by it when I first came here, but because the LPA forums and site in general is one of the few quality LP fan sites/forums out there--I would go as far as to say the best-- I stuck around. I also noticed many members in the past have warned newbies, "Make sure to read the rules, or the admins will blah blah blah..." I think this says something as well. And Cameron, I'm going to take a risk and say you're right. Sometimes I too feel as if the admins have said in different ways in the past, "We understand what you're saying, but we know what we're doing, so fuck off." Sometimes even, "Well, if you don't like the way things are done here, then go away."

However, Derek, you tell us the admins are open and trying to be friendly. That's great. The admins do a great job keeping a great forum in tact. I've always appreciated the admins for enforcing the rule that forbids the use of the words ****** and gay as a derogatory term when so many others don't. It says a lot about the integrity of the forums and admins. Still, like I said before, the admins could have been gentler with their members when they went about closing posts and enforcing the rules. I'm interested to see how it goes in the future. I understand that the admins aren't perfect. Neither are the members. All of us can make the forums even better than it is (there's always room for improvement).

Btw, Derek, I know that you said to PM any of the admins if we had any problems, but since this was in the public anyway, I thought I'd put my two cents in here.

cassie, don't leave just because you were smacked across your fingers by the admin. you are not perfect and no body in their right mind should expect you to be, nobody is. you made a bad joke and were told off, if you leave because you feel bad, you will only loose that way. why not just appologize for joking about cannibalism which is a serious matter in its perversity and just get on posting here.

i think admin have to be strict sometimes, although i havent got a clue why the thread in serious topics asking people to share their probs got closed. did i miss something there? or is it cos there is let it out thread already?

Yah come on don't leave just casue the admin gave you a warning and acted somewhat harshly to something you thought was funny. I mena i'm sitting on two warnings for things that probably didn't offend anyone at the time, but the fact is they broke the rules. I mean the admin have to set a fine line of what's alright adn what isn't. If you wanna participate here you have to go with it. On both my warnings the stuff i said wasn't meant to "flame" anyone in particular, i guess the word choice was just wrong. In all honesty, no matter what forums your on the admin will probably be no different. There will always be one or two that you'll find that you just wanna slap.
