when they say that, they arent talking about the punk culture, theyre talking about an expression people use i.e.: shut up, punk, or ill blow youre head off okay, bad example, but hope you get what im saying.
Yes. Yes they do. List of bands that pretty much exemplify hostility and negativity in their name: Rise Against Against Time All Against The World Anti-Flag Not Enough Hate Anti-Heros Anti-Socialism Axes Of Evil (lmfao)
Sugarcult ... :chemist:
Punks, back in the day, were generally the outcasts of society. The original definition of the word meant a male prostitute in prison, or something along those lines. I, personally, don't see why it matters. A lot of punks seem to be fine with the majority of society either being unaware or distasteful of their culture. Hell, some of them like it. And as far as the definition of punk rock goes...don't bother. No one will ever agree. Although the majority of punk rock is pretty hostile, what about the Buzzcocks? The Descendants? The Ramones? Three very well known and influential old-school punk bands, who were mostly pretty upbeat.

Yea, that's exactly what I thought when I read it. I honestly think you're being way too literal of the meanings of "punk." Furthermore: Why on earth do you even care? I'm often labeled as "punk" but honestly I don't really care, that's just their opinion. I also agree with Twice and what he said in his last paragraph.
well i am a goth, but i don't dress like one (only cuz i am not allowed to...my parents dont believe in letting their oldest daughter be who she wants to be) but it looks like people around here look past the clothes and all that cuz they all know what i am anyway. and all the goth people i know are way way way nicer than the preps and the jocks. they also smoke less weed than the preps or the jocks. (adderall is a different story )
I think labeling and labels are unavoidable, it's just human nature. (Plus, America is corrupted.) I think that when you choose to be a lesbian, or dress in pants that go from the sink to the toilet, you embrace the consequences that you will be labeled, and eventually if not right away someone will say something to/about you. It's never going to go away, so you might as well realize the consequences, or change your lifestyle.
What do you consider a goth? Not asking in an accusing way, I'm just curious because it's such a vauge label...
Anyone who has taken the time to know me, will know I went through getting labeled in school from the minute I hit the 3rd grade. I know how the system works, and I know why I was never accepted as a person until I decided to get homeschooled. If you dont buy clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch, or cave in to materialistic bullsh*t you're going to get shot down and that's all there is to it. I for one, chose to be true to myself and not spend a day in front of the mirror putting on a facade to disguise who I am. I chose not to hold my tongue and only say things that would be regarded as 'cool' so I can be popular and hang out with a group of kids who use thier looks to get ahead in life. Trust me, I tried the whole popular thing for a week or two, because one of the jocks decided to help me become more of an 'acceptable person'. I started watching what I was saying, and paying close attention to my looks, as well as making fun of people who we're different in order to get ahead. And you know what? I didn't like it one bit. I didn't like having to feel like I couldn't be myself anymore around these people who didn't even know me. I didn't like making fun of the 7th grader just because he had hereditary balding at a young age. That lifestyle wasn't for me and I eventually decided not to care anymore about what people said about me. I would get punched in the side everytime I left German class, and I was later (through a bunch of quickly spread rumors) regarded as the school loser, and the type of person who would lose someone their popularity, if they were caught dead talking to me at any time while school was in session. I tried comforting the popular chicks when their a**hole boyfriends treated them like crap, and instead got the cold shoulder because I was "Derek Oswald". But I got the last laugh in the end, I've since become homeschooled and have talked to many girls who are far hotter then the skanks that went to my school everyday. What's my point you ask? Don't let labels affect you because sooner or later you're going to get the last laugh, just like I did.
Indeed. Labeling something is a very wrong thing. It can hurt people's feelings as well. At most schools, labeling is a huge deal. We have like, Preps, Skaters, Wanna-be's, all of that crap. I mean, like, I go along with it, but it's just extremely stupid. I don't like the fact that they do it all of the time.
i don't know.. most of you guys say labels sucks but we ALL do it... when we describe people you may say "yeah he's kind of skaterish" or something like that. it's useful in my opinion. i don't personally label myself as anything but if i were looking for a friend somewhere and i had to ask a stranger if they say him/her i'd say "yeah they have kind of a rockerish" or "they're kind of preppy" etc etc.
mmm. *agrees* as much as i hate to admit, i label people a lot. i dont do it from just looking at them, but after we talk, i usually say "she's a nice person, but kind of too preppy" or "hes a hot rock pirate" or something like that. so i label people too. but never ever before we talk. well, except for stuff like "man hes hot".
i dont know what i consider a goth, that was the first time i have ever said it. i have been denying it for like years, but i realized taht is not getting me anywhere. adderall is medication to treat adhd, michael takes it. but it makes him depressed.
Well In my school you have Trendys (Skaters,nu-metal etc.),Townies (Hip-Hop),Goths etc. One day there was a huge war of every kind of person there,we didn't go back for lessons,it started at 1:05pm (we go back inside for lessons usualy at 2) it finished at 4pm 2 people got badly injured and about 15 people had to go to the hospital 1 person is now permenatly parylyzed
well how do you know what your denying/confirming if you don't know what it is? I don't mean that in an accusing way, I just don't get it. That's really, really, really pathetic.
