This thread is about trying to make objective speculations off of a subjective opinion. You cannot make a claim that WB influenced LP on whichever songs just based on what those songs feel like. This thread has no meaning. What is actually going on rationalization, not reasoning. [[insert cute picture here instead]]
Because it was more a general question. But more to the point I think Schen probably needs to get a banhammer for being really, really unfunny. Or in terms that you can understand;
I don't get why so many fans get pissy at WBs and blame them for making LP mainstream. From the get go, the minute that Linkin Park appeared on Video Hits here with One Step Closer, was the second they were mainstream. Do I give a flying fuck that they're mainstream? No not really. The only "non-mainstream" album that I think is out there is Reanimation. Every other album was mainstream. If LP hated WBs so much for making them mainstream and "trying to change them" they would've gone and made themselves an independent record company just for the band, so I don't think WBs isn't that bad or else LP wouldn't still be with them. The reason why Schen is VIP is because he financially has helped LPA with server costs, as every other VIP has. Stop trying to start shit and be more mature. Schen made his point, and you've made yours. Congratufuckalations.
A Thousand Suns and mainstream don't belong in the same sentence. I'm sorry. Perhaps one or two songs but that's it.
Well, say they wanted to leave Warner but Warner didn't necessarily want them gone. I'm no expert on how this sort of thing works, but in that sort of situation, considering there's a legal contract there I doubt it'd be as simple as them just upping sticks and going as they please. Then again, maybe they don't want to leave. All I know is that I used to read Mike's blog a lot, and I remember that he's made posts about bands like NIN and Metric releasing music themselves in some way and seemed enthusiastic about the idea, and if they left Warner they'd probably have the clout to release music by themselves if they wanted to. But yeah, I don't know what the situation is regarding their relationship with Warner and how long there is left on their contract. For all I know they might not want to leave.
I disagree. It is an artistic mainstream album. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think the argument here should be mainstream or not mainstream. Linkin Park is a mainstream band. What the discussion should be is, is Linkin Park making a genuine work or art, or taking orders from Warner Bros. about what will sell. I think the answer is pretty obvious. Linkin Park wanted to make a real musical work of art; an album. not a collection of singles. Is there still commercial appeal in this album? of course. Waiting For The End is a big example. Iridescent is a huge pop song. Burning In The Skies will probably do well as a single. Wretches And Kings would have all the headbangers foaming at the mouth as a single. The thing about A Thousand Suns is that there are also songs like When They Come For Me, Blackout, and Robot Boy. The musical interludes too. There's a bigger picture that goes beyond the individual songs. It's in the artwork too. So could Linkin Park have made less mainstream sounding music? Absolutely. But that wasn't necessarily the point. The point was to make an album that someone could immerse themselves in, a genuine artistic experience.
I know many don't want this subject to arise once again, but I must know. Os neutral: If you recognize the fact that the shirt is just a comedic play on words, how is it "an illustration to make it easier to understand my opinion"? Please, I'm dying to know. Try to keep it at 200 characters or less though
Haha what Ree? I don't think this is an issue that needs to be PM'd about. And if you two really didn't care, you wouldn't have replied to me saying it doesn't matter. I mean, if you don't care, don't read what he says. But I'm just curious. /rant about...I'm not sure . I've literally been trapped in my house all day because of this storm. I'm bored out of my fucking mind.
