I used to not give a shit about the band, like everyone else, I presume, before we became big fans. Back in 2001, before I had internets, I was bumping "Hybrid Theory" 24/7 and someone I knew had heard a rumour via radio that LP had broken up. I believed that (though I forgot about it soon afterwards) but it didn't affect me in the slightest; though I already considered them my favourite band, I knew nothing about them at that time and, as long as I had my copy of the album to listen to constantly, nothing else mattered to me then. I had little understanding of how different Linkin Park's music to everyone else's, didn't fully comprehend how much of a hip-hop influence there was in the music. I just loved the stuff to death, as would be the case with all their subsequent releases. Since then, I've learned enough about music and about LP that their drastic departures from "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" made nothing but perfect sense to me. I can more than easily empathise with the band's position as artists who are always keen to do something different to what they did last; to me, "A Thousand Suns" was Linkin Park wanting to fulfil creative needs, which is something I can relate to even more strongly than their song lyrics.
"Once you've got a theory of how the thing works, everybody wants the next thing to be just like the first." The band has grown up and isn't all angsty anymore, which is why people in your school don't like them anymore. Personally, I was very on the fence when ATS came out. Now, I love it just as much as any other album LP has made. If people can't get out of their close-minded way of thinking, then that's their own problem. You're a stronger peoson for that.
DIrect conversation with a kid at my school Me: *plays Linkin Park* Him: Dude, linkin Park SUCKS Me: You used to LOVE Linkin Park Him: Yeah but their new albums suck Me: ATS? Him: Yeah, and M2M Me: WHY? Him: I liked their old stuff, their new albums suck Me: So now you're gonna just go hate LP and not listen to them AT ALL because of ATS and M2M, thwn there's like, 100 other songs?!? Him: Linkin Park doesn't have 100 songs, they have like 30 Me: Uhh dude what the fuck are you talkin about?! Him: WHatever -walks away-
^ If they take the time out of their day to make sure bile is spewed over someone's favorite band I hesitate to ask how the relationship with their mother is.
Thank God, I'm new here but I have noticed that there is much less hostility on this site. Those who don't like the album are being constructive with their criticisms. Unlike the actual LP site where people are flaming everyone from Rubin's grandmother to Mike Shinoda for "selling-out". I like your review.
Hey now... you could could just as well criticise people making it personal when it's just a matter of someone not liking something you don't like, however silly their reasoning. Sometimes people just are kind of irrational about that sort of thing. That's all.
Yep, Deans right. Some people are like that all the time. Someone I knew actually wished the band "died" and "never exsisted". Now THATS cold!
