You're right about that. Except most of the time, when I decide to take the risk, I'm the little engine that could, but no one's tending to the firebox.

The little engine that could was a train going over a hill. A steam train. In order to keep a steam train going, you have to add coal to the firebox, and keep the fire going, to keep the steam going.

I was making a really bad metaphor or whatever it's called.

What I meant is that when I go to take a risk like that, I fail miserably, and fumble with whatever it is I'm doing.
