Very true. I wish I was old enough to partake in the 'scene' at the time. It's the house music generation now, and frankly the only reason I even head out to house music events are for the drinks and the girls. Definitely would have loved to have gone to live shows during the early 2000s rock scene. Ah, the days of Nu-metal, DBZ, WWF/WWE here and there. Badass.
Eh, I'd say electronic music in general is thriving now. Sure, electronic dance music is most visible to a mainstream audience so you can look at it that way
Didn't mind Adema at the time, but their music certainly hasn't aged well, that's for sure. Personal favourite song of theirs, and the only one I probably wouldn't turn off if it randomly came on in iTunes:
Adema were one of the very first bands I saw live. I think it was April 4th, 2002 at Nottingham Rock City in the basement. The basement is the smallest room ever and the stage is literally about 5ft x 5ft. I was right at the front and it was one of the craziest, sweatiest gigs I've ever been to and fortunately, it was the original lineup with Marky Chavez, plus I think this was around the time he was pilled out all the time. This was at the peak of their career as a band too and the set had songs from their first two albums and they were pretty well known for their "Immortal" video. Back in the day it was hard not to like these dudes if you were in to the rock/nu-metal scene. They had some alright songs and there's still a couple I can listen to if in the mood. They were definitely at their best with Mark as the singer. They actually re-formed with Mark a few years back but actually broke up (again), Mark did some stuff with Midnight Panic but it was never as good as Adema. Ah well, not bad for their time.
Only song I loved from Adema was "Immortal", and I have to thank Mortal Kombat for that. Everything else was "meh". I liked them with Marky than the singer they replaced him with at the time.
Get your hair gel and your JNCOs, 'cause we're gonna nu-metal.
I think in terms of nu metal bands, Adema was about on par with Crazy Town, which put them maybe one step above the absolute "bottom of the barrel" bands of that period like Depswa and 3rd Strike. Definite C-listers, at best.
Crazy Town at least had a song that was worthy of being the big hit that it was (even if Butterfly WAS based around a Red Hot Chili Peppers sample, it was still a good song). 3rd Strike just flat-out sucked.
This is how I feel every day of my life. Sure wish I had been old enough to partake in the music scene back then. That said, I enjoyed Adema back in the day. By enjoyed I mean I like Immortal, Giving In, and what not.
You really don't, you think so now because you're looking back on it and have seen the "gems" that have lasted and can be looked back on with some degree of favorable nostalgia, but it was very much a lame time to live in. It's what house/dubstep/EDM is now; in 5 or 6 years kids will all look back and fondly remember that Deadmouse or Skrillex song they loved, but the rest of us will just remember the time that horrible computer error genre dominated. Their 'Paranoid' cover was great right up until the cringeworthy rap verse. Had they left that out that could have been a classic.
This is my story. BTW, this one's foy you guys. Ha ha ha ha http://youtu.be/HtJaNncLD9s (Not embedding 'cause it's private) Don't laugh. It's actually from 2011 and I'm uploading for teh lulz, it never made it to my channel because it was recorded with open mic and it's not up to my standard anymore. Never did it again because the tuning is the lowest I've ever used.
