Looks play more of a part in this competition than you think.
BuriedxTragedy is actually right because I remeber watching one of the episodes of the audtions and this fat girl that was ugly got rejected. She sang pretty good. Simon even said you sing good but it's just they way you look
You don't know how long it took me to read it. @Omar A: @BuriedxTragedy: True, looks play a great role, plus Fantasia is what I think is the worst idol yet. Diana was so much better.

This isnt meant to offend any fans of ruben...but the only reason I can see for him winning that season was that he was the loveable guy, the big teddy bear, so to speak. He had a great smile and people loved him for his shyness and his smile. Thats not to say he had a good voice...I think he does have a good voice but in my opinion, Clay's was better...I just think that since Clay was more of a nerd and Ruben was more loveable in the public's eye, they chose Ruben.
I stopped watching after Constantine left. My mom dragged me out of bed to watch the finals. I threw my Doc martins at the TV when Carrie Underwood won Country is NOT MUSIC. It's whinier than emo music. Bleh. I despise American Idol
It has vocals. It has guitars. It has drums. If metal is music, than certainly country is music.
true true. In that aspect it is indeed music like any other genre. I just really hate to consider it music, but then again, people like it (like my mother...god save her), so I guess I shouldn't have made that comment. I apologize.

I can see that... and another reason is that Ruben was like the R&B side of Idol... Clarkson was pop, and then Ruben came along and they could now get records in R&B. EDIT: And in my opinion, Clay's only good song was Solitaire.
I was definitely surprised when Carrie won. I'm still undecided about whether American Idol is rigged because I don't know much about the situation. Regardless, both Carrie and Bo are extremely talented, and face it, both are still going to be in the public eye for a while. Think about it this way; if Bo had won, his album style would have been really different, probably a pop/rock crossover with a similar style to Kelly Clarkson's latest album ('Breakaway'). Bo can now do whatever he wants with his music; it's very likely that he can get a decent record deal. I mean, even William Hung got one. If what many people have been saying in this thread is true, it's very likely that more people would go out and buy Bo's album than Carrie's album, either because more people voted for BO, or Bo's style of music is more appealing to people who don't watch 'American Idol'. Carrie is planning to do a country/pop crossover album; that may or may not appeal to people who voted for her, depending if on the reasons why they voted for Carrie. I'm sure that if Carrie came out with a style really similar to Shania Twain, she would be a massive success.
The title of this show is offensive to anyone who follows a monothestic religion. Oh yeah, and the people on the show suck too.
I was actually suprised that carrey won cause I swore american idol was trying to be politically correct first season- white female second season- black male third season- black female forth season- white male thats how I thought it was going to be. It makes me mad though that I (and many other people) were expecting that. Our society acts as if only white and black people can make music. Thats why its cool to see Joe and Mike do what they do.
all i can say about this topic is GET OVER IT. pop singers will always win. always. you take in 80% of information hrough your eyes. the way people look when they're all airbrushed and shit. that's what the general population wants to see. so thats what they pay for. ergo it over powers the hardworking un-airbrushed people.
In all honesty I thought Carrie sang better then Bo. Bo drove me nuts. I can't quite say why, but part of it is because of his hair. I simply just don't like how guys look with long hair. And I thought it was odd to see a "rocker" trying to win American Idol. I dunno. Anyways, I'm not a big fan of country, but I still think Carrie deserved to win. And if I remember correctly, I think country is the most popular genre of music in the US. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think that's what's going on here. So if that really is the case, then it would make more sense that the country singer got more votes then the "rocker". Because country is more popular in America. I don't think the show was rigged when I think by those standards. But either way, Carrie can sing really well, but when she sings country, she's amazing, so I believe she deserved to win. Everyone in my family wanted her to. So ha! (not that I made much of a good point in this)
All I have to say is this is exactly the reason I never watched a single episode of American Idol in my life.
I think there's an American Idol-esque reality show called 'Nashville Star' where all the participants compete to become the next big thing in Country.
