I hate reality shows. AI is for losers who can't get into the music business by themselves, they need to enter some stupid competition for publicity. I'm glad they banned Linkin Park music - the singers would just screw it up anyway.

that is fine with me, considering 99% of those people would murder any song, and i dont want to hear a bad version of a great song. Pop Idol, indeed.

Oh yeah, you got a point here :D .

Snoo : Getting into the music industry is really hard, even with lots of talents. Sometimes, most of the artists are there because of their family *cough*Iglesias*cough* or cause a producer was passing by the bar where they were playing.

gives me more reason to NEVER EVER watch American Idol. I just don't think they should limit what people get to sing though...

I was just talking to my mom about it. AI might be looking for a "pop" superstar...but theres more to it. Wondering why Bruce Springsten is on the list? Licensing. If Fox doesn't want to pay the fee for having the songs on air, the songs obviously can't be sung. Its not just AI being biased on who they want to be the next American Idol. Just thought id bring up that piece of info...

    amen.

In the end (no pun intended :p) it's all about money. They know some teenie bopper pop crap will fly off the store shelves with all then 13 year old girls buying it because they're trying to be all cool and hip by following the trend. CDs can lead to t-shirts, posters, you name it, and the pocket of FOX, the record companies and American Idol get stuffed with cash.

Rock music on the other hand isn't any less popular than pop, it might even be more. But, typically, rock music fans aren't trend setters or trend followers, we're not all going to run out on release date and buy the CD, we're not going to fill our closests and cover our walls with merchandice from the winner. Therefore, the companies won't get as much money.

Plus, unfortunatley completley untrue stereotypes come in. Rock music is viewed as depressing music talking about drugs and suicide and filled with cuss words. Obviously not true, but try telling that to the conservative CEOs who would normally pay for their commercial to air during American Idol but won't because of the stereotypes

If your going to talk about stereotypes, then don't talk about only 13-year olds being teenies. I know alot of people who are 13, and even younger, that could care less about that pop crap and that are in to LP. Not all 13 year olds are like that

 stupid idol, oh well I doubt their next Idol will be any better and succesfull then their others. Anyways, rock is way more in now a days, maybe someone few people listen to rap but we all can espect pop to be unPOPular soon. If AI won't go with the trend then they can't make any money.

Once I read the news, I think it's quite unfair that LP songs can't be sung during the competition. However, after thinking about it again, I think it's great that if the songs are not allowed to sing in the show as the people who are in the show suck, if they sing LP songs, they will definitely make the songs worse.. so.. nope, NO LP SONGS IN AI is good.

yeah!... someone actually knows that not ALL 13-year-old girls like pop music. as i am a 13-year-old girl, i dont fit the stereotype.... but that stereotype is pretty much true from where i come from. everyone either likes R&B or pop(by pop i mean pop-punk, i dont like the pop-punk word.... its too sissy for me)

and for the AI banning LP and Korn and stuff, i could care less, and i am not surprised, as George W. Bush's brother owns FOX, it would be pretty natural. hes power hungry and money craving..... well i guess it runs in the family.

American Idol = America's Best Karaoke Singer

They are they are good at singing....I could be a BETTER singer ( ) and would actually be able WRITE music (good music ;) ) and NOT have a chance at getting on the show. Another thing is that they are basing them on looks and stage prescence. Musicians with great stage prescences are GOOD, but you shouldn't turn away someone because they don't....

Judge: We just heard a guy named Mozart....man was he brutal on-stage.... and with that white frilly hair, your cut!
