The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is the upcoming fifth studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains. It is expected to be released on May 28 2013, and will be Alice in Chains' second album since their 2005 reunion, following the 2009 release Black Gives Way to Blue.

^I so copy-pasted that from Wikipedia.

Anyway, two singles from the album have already been released: "Hollow" and "Stone", in December and March respectively.

    Here's the album/single art:

Fun fact: the overlapping skulls (there's one in the background too if you didn't see it) overlap to form an image of the devil.

So there's that. Excited? I loved Black Gives Way.

I'm really looking forward to this. AIC are one of my all time favourites and I thought BGWTB was one of the best rock albums released in recent times. Hollow and Stone are great tracks as well so I'm eagerly anticipating listening to the whole album next week.

Sorry for the double post but I've just gotta say, I listened to this album and it's amazing. Easily the best album of the year so far and right up there with Dirt and Black Gives Way To Blue.

There isn't a bad song on the album but the standouts are the title track, Choke and Phantom Limb. Those are easily three of the best songs the band have ever written. Also the title track is so atmospheric and eerie. It really is a masterpiece.

Still waiting for my copy to arrive, hopefully today or tomorrow.

Hollow & Stone are pretty great though.

Stone is my favorite track, it's fucking badass. There are some GREAT tracks on this record. Really digging it from start to finish. I saw these guys at Carolina Rebellion this year and they put on a great show.

So badass. Stone is my favourite still at this point, but I've only had one spin.

Amazing album. You know what, this could even work as a double album with Black Gives Way to Blue. My favorites are The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here and Phantom Limb.

Man, I don't think Alice in Chains will ever release a bad record

Anyone else think the title track is fucking eerie as shit?

Definitly some Angry Chair to that one. I can't stop listening to this record, it's so good.

I definitely see what you mean, but I can't say I felt it myself before I saw your post.

This album is amazing. Still wish Will's vocals were more prominent though.

Yeah, that's my only gripe about the album. Other than that I was pleasantly surprised with the album, since I didn't really care too much for Black Gives Way To Blue.

That's a bit weird, the albums have the completely same sound (and quality) in my opinion.

The title track is a very clear criticism about the interpretation of God, heaven and religion itself: "I am wise and you don't know / A cloud is my home / Only some get in / Got 'maginary friend". It highlights the ridiculous extent to which people are blinded by the Bible and the church. And how some people claimed that the devil actually scattered dinosaur bones to dissuade the faithful. Yeah right. It's an interesting central theme they picked for the album, for sure.

'Stone' also discusses a similar topic - the debate on which religion's God is the real one. 'Hung on a Hook' also sets that tone, especially the outro of "Not gonna save you / Perform euthanasia", hinting at the misbelief that God is the all-forgiving entity everyone imagines.

The same with 'Phantom Limb': No hope of rescue / I'm trapped here alone /... / Angels have been advised / Don't want no requiem. Alice's view of that certain "rescue" after death: there is no transcendence, angels won't take your soul up to heaven and there will be no requiem after your demise. Quite the atheist view in my opinion, but then again AIC have always "denied their maker" (Man in the Box reference).

At least these are my interpretations, I'm sure there are quite a few out there though.
