I don't think a band is their singer. Look at Slipknot, do you think that if Corey left the other 8 guys should change their name? It's their music after all, just the voice is different (and the lyrics, usually), the same thing as if the guitarist left. I think it's a much bigger loss if it's the guitarist or drummer.
The thing is, in most cases it's the singer of the band inwhich we relate to most, and when that's replaced it's hard to adjust again. It's a shame Merky ever had to go, but i'm really looking forward to the new material.
I agree completely. There are situations in which a band should change its name, and there are situations in which a band shouldn't. If this new Adema album is really what the current band members are saying it is (Adema, just with a different singer), then I think it's fine that they kept the name. Even if it does sound a little bit different, the band members deserve the right to keep the name... they made a name for themselves under Adema (no pun intended), so why shouldn't they? Bands like Dredg, Apex Theory, AC/DC, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, etc. There are also bands who have changed their sound a ton with a change in singers (Drowning Pool being a perfect example).
I fucking hate when people say that. It's more often that the lead singer thinks they're the band.
I agree.

And the fact that they've got tattoo's with Adema on them Or is that just the drummer? Well, whatever I'm looking forward to the new album now, and I'm hoping that the band can come up with better, less repetative lyrics. I don't find it exciting listening to one word said over and over again

Even the two that were kicked out (Mike and Mark) had "Adema" tattooed on their wrists (Kris, the drummer, had it on his hand, too).
Okay, fair enough. A name change would be a good idea but it's their choice Anyone know what happened to Marky? :wth: EDIT: I mean what he's doing now...
Dishes. Hopefully he got a spot in another band. I like his singing. Just his songwriting wasn't too extravagant. (It was still good though)
Okay, I thought so. The drummers one is cool! It takes up all of the back of his hand
Yeah, Kris is a really nice guy, too. If you go to an Adema show be sure to meet him! As for Marky, he's currently collaborating with a lot of underground rock acts in California. I hope he'll come back with another band, too, but he has a few problems to work out.
I had the pleasure of seeing Adema live back in 2003, in a crowd of 500 i was front row centre in a venue known as the basement . It was crazy, but brilliant. The guys are really nice and put on a great show. I personally can't wait for the new album. I'm really looking foward to it.
I fucking hate when people say that. It's more often that the lead singer thinks they're the band.
Okay, let's look at Rage Against the Machine for example: Zach left and Chris came and their whole style changed. That's a drastic example, but still holds true. Think what Linkin Park would sound like if the lead singer of Simple Plan was the frontman -- wouldn't be the same, would it?

What about Iron Maiden? AC/DC? Black Sabbath? Apex Theory? Dredg? Van Halen? (I've been giving this list the whole topic, you should have thought of a way to combat it by now.) None of them changed their sound, and most of those only became more popular with their new singers.
I dunno, I agree with Vampire. I think the vocalist is one of the biggest factors in a band. His style of lyrics, singing, the way he interprets things...etc. You can't find too many people that write the same, sing the same, and match the band the same, thats why bands change. I think the vocalist is the key part in a band. Im not saying the other members aren't as important but the vocalist plays a HUGE part. (I play bass and I'm saying this, so...its not like im a vocalist saying this)
Marky didn't write all the lyrics.
I'm not saying he did, I was talking about vocalists in general. A lot of vocalist do write all the lyrics.
