Not as bad as My Heart Will Go On Vs. Believe Me.

    Some hail that as genius.

I hail it as complete shit.

I "mashed" the whole FM instrumental album with Nas' Stillmatic a capellas. A few turned out great. The rest are OK.

I think LPA should have a contest for who can make the best mash-up album.

    I've heard NickelNine's mash-up, and it's really good.

The only way to make a good mash-up song or album is to have the source files. Otherwise it's just an acapella over a beat, which isn't as good.

If they gave out the files like Reznor did on the website, then we'd be in business.

Not necessarily. Look at the Grey Album.

The Grey Album used acapella Jay-Z tracks, and instrumentals of the White Album, yeah. But DangerMouse didn't just paste one on top of the other. Which seems like what ya'll are talking about.

Actually, he didn't use instrumentals of the White Album. If memory serves, he actually used the studio tracks, but only the parts that had no voices for the beat.

He made his own samples from the studio tracks, but I digress.

What happened to that Stillmatic PM, eh?

I agree with Casey in the fact that a capellas layed over instrumentals aren't as good and they are expectedly sloppy in most cases. But I believe if someone really wanted to take the time to make them good, they could. I'm not sure if 9th Wonder just used some of his beats for his Black Album mash-up 'Black is Back' or if he made the beats for the Jay-Z a capellas. Either way they are very well done. I think his 'God's Stepson' mash-up of Nas' God's Son is better and incredible.

@Minus and anyone else intrested in my stuff, please click my sig or the link below it. Please have low expectations when checking it out. Thanks!

@Paul: Thanks for the love I appreciate it a ton! (Your PMs are full)

Since we're talking about samples, I did notice that on 'Believe Me' Mike samples a strings loop on Garage Band (music making program for Mac).

    Demo Reel

I was wondering if I am allowed to use these raw tracks for my demo reel. It'll be the background music for animations, that I will be showcasing on it. I won't be making any money off my reel, It'll be distributed for free...

And if the raw tracks aren't allowed, can I still remix them and use it like that?

I dunno if I'm explaining myself right.

But yeah I'd like to know.

    plzkthx :)

This is tight, I've never heard of any band just givin away pieces of there work for no important reason. I've always liked linkin park and im getting into fort minor now too. Abstract sound=A sick band, and genorosity finishes it off. Im gonna hit up this petrified beat later cuz its sick. lol
