I'm surprised it's gotten as much press as it has. It's nothing new. Players from Latin America lie about their ages all the time.

 

i think its because the money he was offered
i dont see the big deal
i mean im not an expert but isnt it a little odd that he said he was younger
most ppl would lie to say that thye are older
but idk

 

You can't know much about baseball, then. And just because it happens all the time doesn't mean it's not a big deal.

They lie about their ages because organizations see the young players and envision them being the cornerstones of their franchises for years and years to come. If they're older than they say they are, then that limits the amount of time (and development) a player can go through before they have any sort of impact on their team.

Lying and saying you're older is for 12 year olds.
