Ok. We were just talking about this in English class. I just wanted to know your opinion; Do you think zoos should be allowed? I personally don't care about zoos as I rarely go to them, unless someone asks me if I want to go with them. To me, all zoos are, are animals being locked up in cages, away from their original habits. Why? So we can pay $10 bucks just to look at their stupid sorry little asses for getting caught and thrown in that fucking jail. I'm not any kind of animal activist or anything, I really don't care about animals. But zoos are pointless to me. The gov't wastes their fucking money on making zoos, instead of putting it towards schools, roads, etc. they're giving animals a new home behind bars. If you're going to put a polar bear in Australia [or wherever that was], have it in conditions where it wont start loosing hair due to dehydration and eventually die [true story actually]. Think about it, then tell me your opinion. note: Don't think of me as some animal rights person, or whatever. I don't care much really. Only reason I'm asking is because it was something brought up today and I felt like posting about it.
I'm against zoos for the most part. But some animals need to be in captivity due to injury/being an endangered species/etc.
it is important to have zoos because people are ass holes and dont care about the enviornment and animal's habitats. some animals almost exclusivly live in zoos, w/o them, these species wouldn't have a chance of survival w/o these zoos.
And other animals would have less survival in a zoo enviroment, because they're taken out of their own limitless enviroment, while in the zoo, they're caged up with only water and whatever else they're given. They can survive outside of zoos easily.
I'm not sure whether I am for or against them. They are great to bring children, but there does arise the question of animals being in their natural habitat.

no, most animals in zoos are exotic....which has come to mean that they dont have any place to live anymore. animals are more taken care of in a zoo than they would be in the subberb or a village that incroched on thier home. most of them would be killed where they has lived. also a lot of the animals in zoos are born in captivity and are part of a breeding program....the only way for these indangered animals to survive is if there are successful breeding programs, w/o them, we would lose these magnificent animals. plus, i think it is a wonderful thing for these uneducated city kids to learn about the wild. i mean, how many of them really watch Nature every week or watch Nova. w/o these zoos, how could these kinds not only learn, but experience these majestic creatures in person. zoos can be a wonderful thing as long as the animals are well taken care of and have a nice, large enclosement. to lose zoos would be to lose something that can be wonderful for the future of these animals and the future of our school childeren. w/o knoledge we are lost in ignorance, and ignorance destroys.
I think in some cases they are a necessary evil, because god forbid we ever stop building new cities and towns
I've never thought about zoos before.. Well, I think they're great for kids. Especially those who are fascinated with "aminals" and how cool they are. I guess I don't really mind zoos, unless the animals are being abused.
Polar bear in Austrailian zoo, died. Started to lose hair so he can cool off, but ended up dieing in the end. Also a tiger was being kept in a 5x6 cage, all it could do was walk around all day in that tiny space, not sure where thou. 2 examples I heard today.

now that is horrible. and i didnt say that all zoos are great. they are only good if the animals are happy and healthy. if it is anything other than that, they are no better than a circus.
well i have only been to a zoo twice and both times i saw animals in bad conditions. i think it's not very nice to put animals in cages as i think it is cruel , would you like to be put in a cage all your life? no i think is the answer.
I go to zoo's to see spider monkeys. So yah zoos may be pointless, they should just have a bunch of spider monkeys locked up somewhere for viewing and i'd be happy.

What kind of question is this? Of course zoos should be allowed, what the hell is wrong with them? It's just a bunch of rare animals, and they take care of them well, so what's the big deal.
Well, they take care of them, but why don't they put them in WILDLIFE HABITATS instead of freakin' cages? It doesn't make any sense! Putting an animal on display?! That's like, animal cruelty.
