While standing on-stage at the Linkin Park special LPU live event in Los Angeles less than 24 hours ago, Mike Shinoda promised that more details were "just around the corner", regarding the story of the band's newly-unveiled line-up. By the time that live event ended, Linkin Park fans were greeted with a new single called "The Emptiness Machine", a music video for that single, the announcement of a new studio album called "From Zero", and some tour dates for good measure. A few hours after that, Zane Lowe teased an interview with all six current Linkin Park members, and, now, that interview is available to watch on YouTube. Presented in partnership with Apple Music, the platform on which "The Zane Lowe Show" is hosted, the hour-long video unsurprisingly sees Zane interviewing Linkin Park founding members Mike Shinoda, Phoenix, Joe Hahn and Brad Delson (who was bizarrely absent during the live show afterwards) along with new additions to the lineup, Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain. The program starts out with Shinoda taking Zane through the challenging logistics of staging the special event, and some of the considerations involved in reforming Linkin Park into what we are now seeing. Zane and Shinoda then sit down with the rest of the band for some deeper questions on their emotional experience of building up to Linkin Park's new chapter, complete with new music and ambitious touring plans. Check out the interview here and tell us what you think on our message board!
Wait so...this was filmed just before the show, and Brad was here but not at the show? I'm so confused.
Not right before the show, Zane says they're "a bit away" which could be days or weeks from playing the show
I wonder if Brad is just not going to do tours. I haven't listened to the entire interview yet. We'll see.
Killer interview! I am really enthusiastic at how Mike described the connection he had with Colin. Feels like a lot of good stuff could come from that.
Pretty sure Zane said the band will be doing the live debut (referring to the show we saw yesterday) in a couple of days. So this should've been 2-3 days ago.
Cool cool. I zoned out for a bit and it must have been when that was said Dave is quickly becoming my new favorite in this era. Mustard talk? Count me in.
Yeah I absolutely dug the interview and chemistry. Its nice to see them back here after all that has happened.
I loved the emphasis on trying to dredge up and underline the fact that it was a happy chemistry coincidence that developed over a healthy amount of time with a ton of tact, respect, and humility. Understanding that this has been a five year process is a huge part of making sense of it.
Oh Brads out from touring. I was kinda worried since he didn't show up but man, makes sense. 7 years of being with loved ones, priorities changed. He's still part of the era, just not doing all the touring and as a 34 year old who has not done any touring, I feel ya. Be a couch potato, Brad
Can I just say that I love Zane Lowe? Every interview he has with the band is lovely. He's passionate, professional, polite, but he nevers sounds like someone who would make them an "easy" interview beforehand. I find him very pleasing.
Very nice interview. Nice to know Emily started to scream inspired by Chester and Mike inspired Collin to be a producer. LP touched so many lives, it's incredible. Was so cute to hear that Joe missed the boys and wanted to hang out more, got me emotional a little bit. This Brad news is very heartbreaking for me. I wouldn't care this much about his decision if he had a minimal presence in social media, but just like Rob, I feel some kind of weird grief because I don't know if I will hear any news of him again. Right now, sure, Brad will give interviews and be on LPTV, but after this first months of release, I don't know if we will hear of him until the next album cycle. But I totally respect his decision, it just saddens me that I'm not going to see him regularly in this new comeback of the band. Still stocked and hyped about the future of the band, being listening to TEM all day and gotta say...I think is my favorite first single of LP. Emily is amazing and fits so well with Mike. Collin did a great job on the drums and inspired me to get in my drums again. I started to play because of Rob, so this feels like a full circle moment.
Loved this whole interview, I seriously missed this group and their whole vibe. On a personal level, I've been feeling like my life's been slowly getting back to a good place, and just feels like... idk, closure?
