Director Dale "Rage" Resteghini (Mudvayne, Hatebreed, Dillinger Escape Plan, Shadows Fall, etc.) is offering bands a shot at a free video and a potential label deal, more details on that can be found here. Speaking on his craft, Resteghini had the following to say:
"...I shoot 99% of all of my videos on the very best format which is 35MM film for the very best results and well both the TRIVIUM and THE AUTUMN OFFERING videos were shot on 35MM film. What I don't do is just pull up to an abandoned warehouse with a video camera, a few flash lights, a Halloween store smoke machine, shake the camera, call it a day and take the band's/label's money! Yes 35MM film is a lot more expensive and yes it takes more people and steps to get in the can BUT the results are UNDENIABLE and UNDISPUTABLE!!! I do what I do with the same D.I.Y. spirit as you the musician approach your art!!!"

XDOANEX HAS HAD ENOUGH.

I want to clarify a few things in the punk rock video world. I have been here for 15 years. No one has shot more videos and done more to support the state of independent punk rock videos than me. No one has shot more 35mm film, 16mm, mini dv or HD than me. Thats a fact. I support this medium and art 100%. Some of the biggest and best names in videos today have all had my support, insight, equipment, resources and encouragement to start their careers. Shane Drake, Chris Simms and Lex Halaby are just a few. Some of the best working today. And then you have Dale Restingini. I want to be clear on something. One of my all time favorite videos was directed by Dale. Everything about the Most Precious blood video he did was amazing in my eyes. However, this guy just cant shut up. A self proclaimed king of hardcore and metal videos continues to take shots at other directors and their work. Boasting about shooting 99% 35mm is like claiming you recorded your album on Tape and not Pro Tools. If 35mm made something great than why do most films suck, and almost all videos on MTV. Because who cares what something looks like. I have never watched a crappy video and or movie and went, man that sucked, but you know, it looked so great it must have been 35mm, so i like it! If Dale wants to hide behind a format instead of his work, fine, but to boast about it and put other filmmakers down is not going to happen on my watch. Especially in the punk rock hardcore music video industry that wouldn't even be here where it not for a few guys like myself, louis Possen, Derek Dale and others. Guys that made no money but loved making videos. Guys that had no budget and still shot on 35mm. And i still do to this day. Ask any label, if they called me and asked for a free video that they would get one because i love this scene. I bleed for this scene. Any label owner will tell you that. But heres the bottom line. Look at the work. If Dale wants to compare videos than lets do that. I wont even bring my hundreds of 35mm vids to the table. Ill take an EVERY TIME I DIE video in a roller skating rink made for $1500 against any of his 35mm vids. I hear a lot of boasting about his new Trivium video, but i guarantee it wont hold a candle to the new As I Lay Dying, shot on HD. But maybe Dale has a point? Maybe Lucas, Robert Rodriguiez, Soderberg, Harmony Korine, Michael Mann, Danny Boyle and Tony Scott all need to start shooting 35mm again and not HD and get back to the Dale standard. They must all be ignorant filmmakers. I've held my tongue long enough. I've Watched Dale bash other directors, yell at bands and labels for choosing me and not him, bag on new kids with video cameras doing their best and pull the wool over label owners eyes in thinking that if they spend more money on 35mm the video will be better. Such a load of crap. Who's raping the labels now? Hell, if you're going to boast about shooting 35mm, then the only person that should be doing that is Chris Simms. The only director in my opinion who is so far ahead of everyone else when it comes to visuals that we should all be embarrassed. So when Dale wants to claim that somehow his work is great because of the film he shoots on, go to www.timecodeentertainment.com and see what a true master looks like. And just to put an end to all this, any time, anywhere any band any medium. Ill go head to head with you Dale and we will see who makes a better video. And we can let the kids decide who is better. And to all you directors who can make videos in a warehouse, a few lights, shaky camera and smoke machine, keep kicking ass and proving that at the end of the day, its not about the director, but the band. And the only reason we can boast about a video being great is because the band is great. So forgive my boasting, anger and pride. But to lie to people about what makes something great has got to be put to an end. An elitist expensive dinosaur medium that runs labels and filmmakers into debt is the farthest thing from Punk Rock. Punk Rock DIY is about taking what you have, not depending on others and making art. Whether its a mic and turntable, beat up guitar and drums or a crappy video camera. What makes art great is the art, not the equipment used to make it. And my last thought. Dale says he shoots 99% of his videos on film. So what about the 1% thats left? I feel sorry for the 1% that has to have a video shot by Dale on video. Must not be a good video. Those are his standards, not mine.

I'm sorry but didn't the Trivium video get canned?

Sucks that they are doing this though...think both of them are amazing directors (with some of the others on that list as well) but I'm going with Doane on this one...just shut up and do what you do best, making some god damned videos.
