who has it, and what do you think of it? are you having any problems with drivers or anything? all the screen shots of peoples' desktops I see here show me that they have vista, so it makes me seem like I'm the only one still using xp
With the exception of Todd, most hardcore PC users I've talked to have said they really like the feel of Windows Vista, but that some components seemed rushed and not fleshed out (read: the operating system, which would be the opinion of those who just flat-out don't like the OS). Tim over at Ctrl+Alt+Del said he really likes it, and he's a hardcore gamer and PC user. I take his opinion a lot higher than most, because that's what he does for a living. When ever I get the chance to try it (or even... well, you know) I'll post my impressions. Most people said you have to use it for more than an hour, though. And other people just had tons of problems with it. So we'll just have to see. (That also reminds me that Tim has ridiculously high-end hardware, so all his shit is compatible with it anyway.)
My boyfriend has it and his Nvidia drivers screw up sometimes and the 'new' way to scroll through the current windows doesn't work sometimes. I have used it myself and the new Office 2007 in a pain to use, went round his to do an assignment in access and I gave up because I couldn't figure out how to add in a report. But he has only had it less than a month.
People have to remember that when Windows XP came out it had just as many (give or take) bugs as Vista has now. So it's only going to get better. Don't write it off just yet.
I'm currently on it. For performance, if you're on a sub-decent computer, stick to XP. I'll be going back to XP eventually [I procrastinate, so what?]
It's good except that there's barely any support for it. It has good potential, but not much hardware OR software supports it. Stick with XP for a while, then get Vista when drivers are fixed etc.
Well at the moment i'm typing this from my Vista PC on a 42" HDTV. Which is a pretty nice setup. Anyway, I haven't had Vista for long but it seems pretty good. I've been a bit disappointed that there really isn't anything new here though. The worst part of it though it security warnings, I do not want to be asked if i'm sure I wanted to open something, every time I open something. Still, better than a Mac.
there is alot of problems with vista, and i code alot of C++ and you cant do things worth crap in vista, the libraries are different and grrr, things just arnt working out
I bought Vista Home Premium OEM 32bit. I've used it since the first RC version and i really like how it behaves and feels overall. Most of my hardware had decent drivers right from the get-go, Too. nVidia drivers are still BLEH but thats a given. Most if not all of my applications works flawlessly, as well. I love the Ribbon UI in office, If we mentioned that. The open xml format and zip packging the main office applications use is also helpful for programmers (me).
i think once the service packs are released like on XP it might start working a bit better. at the moment i've got a windows vista visual style ...but im using XP and it looks great! however the ones designed for windows blinds are much better, which i cant be bothered to get...
I heard that you can turn those off somehow. I probably wont buy it until the kinks are worked out with a service pack.
Nvidia have released a new beta driver. Just thought I'd post it hear to tell everyone who has an Nvidia graphics card and is having problems
Indeed. Driver 158.18 seems to be much better than previous efforts on my 6600GT. Both Aero and games seem quicker and much smoother.
