It seems like whenever I put a CD into my drive and press Play, the hard drive starts making this loud steaming/buzzing type noise. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix that problem.

it maybe be hardware problem which you'll need physical care for. you could also reinstalling you cd drive via the hardware manager in windows. you need not remove it physically but just disabling/removing (i am not sure which one) it and restarting you computer, your computer should then say it has found new hardware at start up.

you could always reinstall windows media player if you dont want to do all that. just a couple of solutions i thought might work.

That sounds like a physical problem...are you sure it's the hard drive and not the CD drive about to die? Better get that looked at, lest you lose the HDD (been there, done that, got the T-shirt...not pretty) :p

If it's making a buzzing sound often, make sure the drive's screws are holding it into the drive bays, maybe it's a little loose, and everytime it reads, it vibrates against the bay.
