The brand-new Windows Internet Explorer 7 beta is available from Microsoft's Web site. Actually, it's been available for a while, but there's no thread about it.

It's neat. They finally decided to "borrow" some features from Opera and Firefox; most-noticably, tabs, so there's no need for more than one window anymore. It's still kind of buggy, as all beta software is. It takes a ton of memory, so I wouldn't suggest downloading it unless you don't do much when you're on the Internet. Obviously it'll be more optimized for Windows Vista.

The only problem I have with it thus far is that it likes to steal focus from what I'm doing a lot. For instance, if I click a site and then open Notepad, Internet Explorer will automatically own my screen when the site finishes loading and I'll have to click on Notepad again. That's my only quip with the new browser.

It's still vulnerable as hell. I'd advise against it no matter how cool it looks.

I haven't had any problems with IE7 except for it loading slow every once in a while. Then again, my computer's probably the host for a terrorist organization right now and I don't even know it.

Ok for me IE7 uses less than opera use to and also last i heard firefox had a memory leek in it. IE isn't less secure than opera or firefox just people focus on it more when they try and find exploits. Only bug i've found is the one you originally said.

Yeah, Firefox has quite a few memory leaks, true. But if the IE devs were working on Firefox, they'd never be fixed. Moz devs on the other hand actually do some work. *cough*

The reason IE is more expoited is because it's hardcoded into the system, meaning direct access into your computer, while Firefox is seperate from the system..

Well thats fine for us, but not fine for the computer illiterate people have no idea what Active X, think the blue E represents the entire internet, and will click "Yes" to any dialog box.

Exactly. And if you accidentally click yes. You're done for. Not to mention that in many cases, you don't even need to click yes for shit to happen. Here's a story for you. Not involving v7, but still IE.

My friend reformatted, and the first thing he installed was Colin MCRae Rally 06. He wanted a crack and went to some random crack site. Everything froze. He rebooted immediately. On boot, he had abuot 30 extra services running and like 50 icons on his desktop linking to porn and online gambling.

Now for that to someone who has no idea how to reformat a drive and reinstall windows, that's hell and a half.

I DLed the new IE a few weeks ago. I didn't like it though and I Unistalled it within the hour of DLing it. It didn't show pages properly or should I say it wasn't compatible with them. For instance, Xanga wasn't displayed properly and the new Yahoo! Page wasn't compatible with it either. I don't know if they've changed that yet though. ??? Did they FIX the problems with it yet?
