It seems like back in the day LP was loved by many and was "cool". Nowadays, all of my friends say they suck and prefer lil wayne and Nicki minaj I literally don't know another kid my age that likes Linkin park. Will LP ever resurge into the spotlight?
Probably not. Maybe in 20 years, if they're looked at as one of the biggest bands of their time. Then it will be really cool to like them.
When I tell people that I am a huge LP fan, they are surprised by the fact that LP still exists. But if they get a huge award, like a Grammy or a Golden Globe, chances are that they would get back into the limelight.
They're still far and away one of (if not still the) biggest rock acts around, rock just isn't selling like it used to. Also even back then Linkin Park were ripe for ridicule. You and your friends were just in middle school evidently and didn't realize it. Even when they were "cool", they weren't really.
Well, this will probably sound fangirl-ish but I do think they are 'big' considering what Blackee said: Rock isn't selling the way it used to. Even when they are not in the 'spotlight' because pop/dance music completely took over, they still managed to debut LIVING THINGS in #1 along with Maroon 5. And I know charts don't really dictate what acts are big or not but it's a push for every artist. I think those who critic "mainstream" charts and stuff would love it if their band got to top 10. And in another sort of context, I think Linkin Park has done a great job keeping themselves out there when you see some of their contemporaries are either gone or in real struggle to maintain their audience. Limp Bizkit, Korn, are pretty much dead acts to me, they got their thing going on but their impact is nowhere near to LP's atm (in my humble opinion). I think being around for 12 years the way LP has been is worthy of respect on its own. Not trying to put them in the same category as the huge rock/metal bands everyone knows are contenders for all-time favorites. You just put my post in fewer words
Over 51 million Facebook fans, over 1.1 billion YouTube views, the second biggest festival headliner behind only Metallica, etc....
If we are playing with numbers then, Bieber has 37,000,000 twitter followers and has 3,565,905,104 view on youtube. I am not a fanboy. Just happen to know these numbers. You are welcome mate!
I don't recall Linkin Park ever being cool, and that's coming from someone who was in Jr. High during the Hybrid Theory days.
When I was still in high school, I hung out with a lot of people who were casual Linkin Park fans. They'll think "Papercut" and "Faint" were cool, but unanimously prefer their old rap-rock/nu-metal sound. I was pretty much the only one in that circle to end up enjoying ATS period. I don't care if they ever become hitmakers again. Mostly because I don't pay attention to the charts but also because I don't wanna hear a bunch of ignorant radio-metalheads bitch about how they sold out and went pop, as if they weren't pop from their first album. That has always bugged the shit outta me. People like to pretend that Linkin Park was a badass metal band that switched to ballads because it was more profitable. Fuck outta here, they were Depeche Mode with distorted guitars and rapping.
When pop music took over rock has charted down and down and down. This most likely if I ask people from my school if they know Linkin Park, their answer will probably be: "Who the fuck is Linkin Park?" /truestorybro
Being the big thing should not be a deciding factor with how big of a fan you are. Like Blackee said, there was a small niche of fans who truely "got it" back in the day. They were never a band that every single person loved.
From what I've read and heard, Germany hasn't embraced dance music as well as the rest of Europe. Yes there are poeple like yo who enjoy Dubstep and House, but Germany is still very much a rock-heavy place.
No, and I don't care. I just want them to make music what they like and they want and that music to be the best. I don't care if they will have such as small fanbase as for example Taproot. Really, I don't give a single fuck. I don't give a fuck if they won't be in the TV as much as they used to. I don't care if the old-skool Nu-Metal fans will still bash the band for not making "cool" music anymore. I just want the music to be good as possible.
I honestly couldn't care less. I like what I like and it makes no difference to me what others are into or think.of what I'm into.
