While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something and Here Comes The Sun > * George was by far the best singer out of all of them IMO.
I don't know about that. As Americans, we only discovered them in '64, before that we still had Elvis Presley, the Rat Pack, etc. I'll agree that, yeah, a lot of people went fucking bonkers when they heard the Beatles, and I'll personally never understand it, just like I don't know about the whole Elvis hip gyration deal, or Dylan going electric. But, anyway. A whole decade before the Beatles even formed, you had people like Nat King Cole or Bing Crosby. I think, back then, it was more of something to pass the time, rather than a habit (for the consumer).
I don't think there will ever be a phenomenon that comes even close to The Beatles. Anyway to answer the question I would love to say LP is, but they're not as popular and have plenty of haters, especially their older stuff, where as it's very rare to meet someone that absolutely despises The Beatles. I've met only a handful. On a side note my favorite Beatles songs are In My Life, Something, A Day in the Life, and Yesterday

This. To everyone in this thread: Listen to the original version of "Because" and tell me if any other artist sounded like that in 1969. You have stuff from 90s grunge/modern day rock existing in a song that predates those genres by a good 40 years. There will never be another Beatles, and that's the way it should be.
There is not going to be. They were who they were, and don't expect anybody to be the Beatles, or MJ of our generation. It's simply impossible.
Indeed, I wouldn't complain of another cultural renaissance... And what "original" version of Because? Is it on one of the Anthology releases?
As far as popularity, cult-status (they were broken up for awhile and haven't had an album in years), and connecting with the audience I'm gonna say Blink 182. Yup I said it! I know they're in almost no ways revolutionary, but they sure do connect to people with their music.
I meant the one that was on Abbey Road. Not the LOVE remix, which is way different and took away what made the original one so good. And sure, I'd love a cultural renaissance like the 60s again, I just don't see it happening with all this over-processed, auto tuned, talentless and manufactured BS we have on the radios nowadays. It's depressing, but the age of creativity seems to be far gone.
People give the 60's way too much credit. It had some great shit but you're looking at it 50 years later after time has sifted the gems from the dook. Grab a satellite radio and put on one of those 60's pop stations and listen for an hour or two, you'll find some truly horrendous tunes on par with anything out there today.
