That's an early bootleg rmx by Justin Lassen, who now gets to do remixes officially; at the time, he released remixes under the moniker "EMT" or "Empire Of Modern Thought". You can find his own SoundCloud upload here, along with notes about the history and process of this well-known fanmade rework.
I knew this was the remix you were probably talking about as soon as I saw the heading. Nice info on the remix! I originally heard it from this video: http://youtu.be/HvVxue7L_Mk It's not the original uploader (as you can read in the description) but it is the same video, and 2007 is around when I discovered it as well. I always thought the video was edited to the song so well that perhaps the person that remixed it, remixed it for the video specifically, but always wondered.
