I don't know where to put this so I put it in tech talk because I figured it was tech related... anyways I'm thinking about getting off my dads cricket plan and changing companys and paying my own bill. Who should I go to? I was thinking At&t but what do you guys think?
Most people I know hype T-Mobile, but seeing as AT&T are in the process of purchasing that company, I'm not really sure what to suggest anymore
AT&T is only bad if you live in like L.A. or NY, it's great in Oklahoma, and has the best 3G speed. I hated on apple all day (still do) but I love my iPhone.
The Samsung Captivate is roughly $30 at Wal-Mart. I myself got a Motorola Atrix a couple of days ago and it is THE SHIT, no questions asked. Both are on AT&T.
It was 50 when I got mine back in February, and to the OP go with ATT. People piss and moan about their customer service, but they've always treated us great. The guy who did my upgrade at walmart screwed up big time and was going to cost us 100 bucks over our original bill. ATT took care of everything and knocked off all the extra charges.
Yep, love it. The Inspire is worth the extra $70 (or $50 if you're a Costco member) over the Captivate. I've used both, the Captivate is a nice phone but doesn't even compare. It's funny, the same people who bitch about AT&T (or any carrier) having poor coverage are the same people who bitch whenever a carrier wants to put up a big ugly tower in their area to improve service. Can't have it both ways. Anyways, never had any problems with AT&T here.
Best phone deal out there: LG optimus V with Virgin Mobile. It's 25 bucks a month for unlimited text and data on an Android smartphone along with 200 minutes a month. There's also no contract. It has changed my fucking life. And it uses sprint towers so the service should be fine. That's what I recommend, anyways.
I can't speak for the Captivate, but generally, the instructions are step by step and pretty hard to screw up. But if something does go wrong, it's possible (albeit highly unlikely) that you'll brick your phone. Don't venture into the world of custom ROMs unless you're willing to buy a new phone.
Oh, there's no doubt about that, lol. I was just commenting on how the Captivate is cheaper, but then again, it has been out a while and, in my opinion, serves less than the Inspire - my dad got one. My preference of AT&T Android phones would be the Atrix, the Inspire, and then the Captivate. At least, until the Infuse comes out - we'll have to change things around then... I don't understand why Android can't simultaneously release upgrades - if the upgrades all work differently on different phones then there should at least be simultaneous developers for different versions, and if that's not the case and all Android phones run on the same version of 2.3, for example, then we should all get it at once. I think I read somewhere that the Galaxy S phones come pre-loaded with 2.3 yet the Atrix won't get it until "later this year". WTF is "later this year"?
Mostly because some of the companies, like Samsung, take their sweet time releasing them. Then you have to wait for the carrier as well. It blows. Oh and mine is a Galaxy S phone, but it came with 2.1.
