A label that people put on a certain kind of rock music. There are different types. Some bands are The Used, Hawthorne Hieghts, Dashboard Confessional, My Chemical Romance, etc. I'm sure someone will come along and say that those bands aren't Emo just because they're popular, but they are Emo.
Emo is a form of music that needs to die a horrible death, and I mean by tortured, maimed, beaten, raped, anything!
emo is puttin strong basis on emotions. usually the bad ones. such as depression, being sad, feeling lost, empty, etc. usually talks about lost love, suicide, cutting, stuf like that. i dont care for emo music
People mistake it as a genre of music, and it's not. It's more a style of fashion, when people label their music and style as "emo" it makes me want to slit their jugular. Good definition/breakdown of "emo":
That's an incredibly stupid stereotype.
i agree. and "emo"is a crappy label to begin with. emo is short for emotional. and pretty much everything is fuckin emotional. mariah carey sings songs that are emotional, so she must be hardcore emo.
From the sounds of things, it almost seems like you could even say Linkin Park is emo. All of their songs are emotional.
http://www.somethingdirectory.com/main_emo.htm oh, and i guess thats kind of only funny if you know about the emo stereotypes.
my girlfriend wrote a whole paper about this. i'll ask her for it and post it soon. all i know is that emo, as in emotional music with acoustic guitars and high-pitched voices (stereotypes i know, but i don't want to get super flippin' broad here) started in the 80's, died off a bit during the grunge era, and has made a comeback recently. when labeling music as "emo", we mustn't generalize and categorize most everything that isn't death metal or rap as emo. anyway, my girlfriend's explanations will help; i'll go ask her for the paper.
It's when you hate the world and everyone having to do with it, listen to Taking Back Sunday, slit your wrists and wear lots and lots of eyeshadow.
although i know you're being sarcastic in your stereotypes and joking, i don't think we should joke about cutting.
although i know you're being sarcastic in your stereotypes and joking, i don't think we should joke about cutting.
Oh I'm not. I'm joking about the people who dont actually do it because their depressed, but instead just do it so they can show everyone. That's the type of people I cant stand.
EXACTLY. What's just as bad is the people who write something like this: My friend Jackie wrote that in her blog. How damn pathetic is that? She's got the best life of anyone I know. I'm not just talking about money. I'm talking friends, family, boyfriend that all love her. She has everything. I wanna take people like this and make them live in Ethiopia or something for a few years. We're all extremely lucky to be living in good places sitting in front of computers probably drinking soda and eating junk food. If you want attention... do something to deserve it. In other words, cheer up Emo kids.
Very true my friend. But i think theres nothing wrong with listening to some emo. Name me one band/artist that aren't emo.
Indeed Omar. I don't have a problem with Emo(although a topic subtitle of mine suggests otherwise). I just have a problem with Emo kids.
