I think at some point there's a little misunderstood about what Mike's doing here. In the letter, he says Fort Minor is his "Outside Outlet" as a musician, but also as a "Painter". This release, and all the hype (that's clearly overreacted by the fans) was meant to promote his second skill: The Paint. He did this huge mural and now he wants to share with the fans. That's why the pre-order is for that. All of this is for his art. In this case, the song "Welcome" is just an accompaniment to this release. In other side, I lost a lot of respect and admiration for Mike during the promo and release of THP, with all the pointless and unnecessary aggressive interviews. But this time, it's nice to see some of the old Mike. The one who shared his creation with enthusiasm and happiness, instead of being a "bad boy". He's not sharing something that "will face the actual state of hip-hop, and blah blah". Just something he wants to share because he loves it. I hope he keep this attitude for the next LP7.
Song didn't do much for me (same with THP), that's probably why I've been off this forum for so long. At least I'm glad he's still motivated to put something new out from time to time.
I love the song! The only thing though is I'm not sure how FM it is, this could easily be a LP song, just have Chester do he chorus and done (Honstly that would be pretty damn awesome in my opinion) I do hop this song hs some influence in LP's next album! Also here's hoping for some more FM songs and this was just the beginning. I like how they told the story to us through social media with FM popping up and constantly trying to get Mike's attention and telling him that he can't ignore FM, it's exactly what Mike said in his letter about getting the idea and not being able to let it go.
Yep. Old school Cudi too. Probably why I love it so much. MOTM1 Cudi is some of the best work I have ever heard
Mike says that "Welcome" felt like a Fort Minor song, but if Debris was meant to be an LP track for MTM, then this surely could have been too. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this was only done to finally get fans off his back and end any anticipation for more FM. Regardless, that's not to say this isn't a good song. The promotion does seem a tad huge, but then again I suppose it is a stand alone single used to display his return. I'm gonna assume that if he doesn't release an album or EP this year, we'll probably never have anything Fort Minor related again so enjoy it while you can.
I'm thinking the "overwhelming positive reaction" to Welcome will "inspire" Mike to release a full album. A lot of lead singles for rap albums come out far in advance of the album now anyway.
Honestly I think that all this attention to detail for just a one off single is a bit too much. Also..90$ for a vinyl single? Yes I get that each piece is handmade and signed and stuff..but still thats a bit steep. I have seem cheaper handmade vinyl (you know handmade ones)
