"Welcome" Fort Minor's Return with First Song in Nearly Ten Years

With a tweet and a personal hand written note to announce its coming, Mike Shinoda let loose tonight the return of his individual project, Fort Minor, with new single song "Welcome". The song is immediately available for download FREE on Fort Minor's official site FortMinor.com for one week only and is available for purchase on iTunes here. Unique merchandise including a extremely limited edition collectors vinyl custom painted and drawn on by Mike for the 360 Degree "Welcome" music video will be available for purchase on June 22nd. The mysterious 360 degree music video will also premiere sometime tomorrow on the 22nd as well. As of this moment, "Welcome" appears to be the only known brand new Fort Minor song set to be released with no album or EP to follow.

Within the hand written note, Mike Shinoda explains that he had not consciously intended to write new Fort Minor songs, however, "Welcome" simply came to him and "just kinda happened." Even though it is not a part of a larger collection of songs, Mike felt it should be "shared with people." The interplay on social media between Mike and the Fort Minor social media sites represented a visual manifestation of Mike Shinoda's decision to return to Fort Minor and release "Welcome." This single song acts as a welcoming to Mike's hip hop history and individualism nearly ten years after the original musical endeavor debuted. The song welcomes an unique and different take on The Rising Tied's more classical hip hop elements by introducing the newer musical nuances that have since populated hip hop during the last decade whilst retaining Mike's own unique twists on synthesizers, production, and rap + singing. The song responds to what perhaps is an acknowledgement of Fort Minor's disappearance since its debut album in November of 2005:

Though this may be a late and short lived return, Fort Minor fans must be excited for the out of nowhere return of new Fort Minor music. Though social media sites and rumors have been circulating amongst fans since February, activity only began last week within the corresponding social sites. This rapid engagement and announcement of "Welcome" beams nostalgia and perhaps a seam of hope for a full album return of Fort Minor.
