I know that there are a few Weezer fans here, and I thought that i'd post a rundown of news about their upcoming 7th album. This is mainly because the news is coming from places so obscure that no one would no about it except the insane fans who search Twitter every day for posts pertaining to the band (and yeah, there are people who do that). Anyway, here's a rundown of news. Keep in mind that a lot of it is rumours. Here's some confirmed stuff, first: - There is a Rivers-sung but Patrick Wilson-written track called "In The Mall" Apparently it rocks. - There's an acoustic track on the album. - Rivers for some reason forced the band (and producer Jackknife Lee) to wear lab coats while recording. - The album is nearly finished. - Pat is mixing it. - It will feature collaborations from Mark Hoppus and Jermaine Dupri (he wrote that "we belong together" song by Mariah Carey, and wrote the lyrics for Alone II's "Can't Stop Partying". Some are speculating that Can't Stop Partying is the collaboration that made the album). - Josh Freese is the bands new drummer, with Patrick Wilson taking up guitar, which Rivers has stopped playing, instead focusing on just singing. It is unsure if Josh is just there for touring, though there are rumours that he is also the studio drummer. Now, for the slightly more interesting rumours: - One of the A7 tracks may a collaboration with Aly and AJ. I believe that it was previously confirmed that Rivers did something with them, though no one knows if it'll make album 7. - There might be a collaboration with Dr. Dre (wtf?). - The album may be released in June. - The album may be called Night and Earth, will be released in June, and contain the following tracks: 1. Why So Serious? 2. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived Part 2 3. Dogma 4. The Who Now 5. Oh Depart 6. Can't Stop Partyin' - There might be a collaboration with Alicia Keys. - Turnin' (the song Rivers wrote with people on YouTube) may make the disc. - Alone I track "This Is The Way" may make the album, though lets hope not because it sucks. - The first single may be "Softies", a track that was scheduled to appear on Alone II, but booted off for unknown reasons. And that's the news on Album 7. I'll keep you guys updated if anything comes up. In the meantime, if you want some new Weezer, I would recommend getting Alone I and II, which are both fantastic, or, if you don't feel like it, just go to weerez.com and get the following b-sides/demos: 1. Devotion 2. Susanne 3. Waiting On You 4. I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams 5. You Gave Your Love To My Softly 6. You Won't Get With Me Tonight 7. Sandwiches Time 8. I Do 9. We Go Together 10. Paperface Also, while your there, click on the link to download the Homie cover album. It's awesome. Anyway, yeah, discuss Weezer/A7/whatever .
To be honest, Weezer after Green album bored, with the exception of a few songs off the Red album. From the sounds of it, they're going to do more mainstream experiments on this one, which was teh downfall of the Red album.
I agree, barring a few great songs, post-Green Weezer has sucked. That being said, I thought that Red was a step-forward in song-writing, and though it wasn't consistent, at least the band were trying something different. Unfortunately, it was ruined by horrible tracklisting. The Deluxe album bonus tracks like Miss Sweeney and Pig, the original demo of Thought I Knew and the Alone II song I Don't Want To Let You Go are all much better than stuff like Cold Dark World, Troublemaker, and Heart Songs. Though, Rivers said that he was going in a more experimental direction (he said that he wanted to base the next disc off of stuff like The Greatest Man), which is fantastic.
Regardless of which albums you prefer, I think we can all agree that Weezer have been inconsistent, quality-wise, post-Pinkerton.
True, but I think that Green is, on it's own, a good album. Doesn't even get close to Blue/Pinkerton, but whatever.
Yep . Also, this is awesome, some fans are putting together an 8-bit Weezer album . http://www.weezerthe8bitalbum.blogspot.com/ The track they have up is fantastic. Should be cool.
Yeah, I just saw that on a Weezer forum. Really glad that Rivers is back singing lead, though i'm not sure about them going back to do new songs. When they did that on Make Believe, it gave us My Best Friend, Pardon Me, and We Are All On Drugs. On Red, it gave us Troublemaker. Granted, a couple good songs also came out of it (Pork N Beans, Haunt You Every Day), but still, the band seem to work better when they're not second guessing themselves (like on Pinkerton).
wow... when red came out I didn't even know they were making music anymore... and now a new album already??? It seems like Red JUST came out...
After Red the band said that they were on a creative roll and wanted to get back in the studio quickly to capatilize on that. If they can further refine Red's style into something more experimental and interesting (I think that this album should be based more off of Miss Sweeney, Angel And The One, and I Don't Want To Let You Go then anything else), then they could have a fantastic record.
I actually really enjoyed Red, not from a wow thats great music standpoint, but from a wow, this is really interesting to listen to. Granted I don't think they wanted the album to be seen as interesting and not as regular music, but it still gets plenty of playtime on my ipod. To me its more of things like the lonely island. you don't listen to the album because its great music, you listen to the album because its funny and at some points really creative.
Red was, to me, sort of the band just throwing a lot of stuff at the wall and hoping that something would stick. In the end, some of it was incredible (TGMTEL, Dreamin', Angel And The One), and some of it was so bad it was unintentionally hillarious (Cold Dark World, Everybody Get Dangerous). In any case, it's an album that i'm fine listening to by myself, but I would never put it on with people in the room who weren't Weezer fans. It would be too embarrassing.
