Mike recently updated his blog with a description of a song the band is working on.

Could this be an indication of what the new album might sound like?

Thanks to Gitsnik for the news!

I think it's an indication of how they're ... uh, trying new things. I somehow doubt anything like that will make the album, though.

Obviously, this isn't the first time Shinoda's described a new song that's only in its early stages, so we might also be being jerked around again; like, they might've been enlisted to whip up a single for the next "Transformers" movie, for all we know ...

I agree with those who've said it just sounds like they're trying new things... and it makes sense because Mike has been listening to a lot of hardcore techno like Justice and Boys Noize... some hard synths and shit... but I think it's ultimately experimentation that will be pretty watered down into a more poppy likeness of itself if the song ever makes the album.

Not that you can really tell what instrument it is, but I believe they used them to make the sample at the start of Shadow Of The Day.

The liner notes say "reversed keyboard loop", so I'll go off that. :)

I think the album will sound pretty conventional, that's all I can say. Though I have no idea what that will entail, it won't be totally out-there like how Shinoda describes these occasional interesting songs as being.

Yeah, I just checked the liner notes as well. I must have remembered the part about the samples in that song incorrectly.

But regarding what Mike said about this new song, I said to Derek the other day that this essentially means they've started work on a song that sounds like Muse. :p

 Well, I take it the new album will sound nothing like Muse. For all the experimentation, the album won't feature anything drastic. That's going off what happened with "Minutes To Midnight".

Oh crap...if this album sounds anything like Brokencyde, I'll make it the first LP album I haven't bought.

I'm glad Muse has been mentioned, LP really need to take a few notes from em and experiment in a Musey way.

I think bands like Thrice and Muse should be the benchmark.

Yeah I wasn't overly impressed with Muse. Knights of Cydonia is kinda cool though, in a really keyboardy kinda way.

Everyone who said Linkin Park should draw from Muse, I agree. Muse has got it right. Linkin Park needs to take their mentality and start doing what they do, just not copy them.

Even though if they did copy them, they'd still get better.
