Yea that's unfortunate. It's such an easy way out of writing angry lyrics.

But it's only 2 songs, that means the majority of the album Mike wrote raps without any of it.

Smart lyrics over profanity any day!

Agreed. the lyrics should be creative not just substituting cuss words instead

Shinoda's verses on "Living Things" are just fine without profanity. And swearing wouldn't have improved the verses on "Burn It Down" or "Lies Greed Misery".

There's a distinct feeling for me that none of the songs on that album need profanity at all.

Because it's just so candy coated and over produced that it lacks the visceral feel profanity brings with it?

Well Linkin Park don't use cuss words excessively. But if you look at other music (*cough* rap *cough*), songs are absolutely littered with cuss words.

Come on guys, profanity and smart lyrics aren't mutually exclusive.

Thank you. Swearing isn't necessary but it is a natural thing. I don't think the band should consciously avoid swear words just to appear more intelligent.

No song ever needs profanity. In some cases its not a cop out, but even when its not a cop out it still is not necessary

I think the profanity in songs such as Blackout made the song better. In the other case, with WTCFM, that's really ehhh haha

So far, LP have mostly done an alright job using profanity in their lyrics, in my opinion. :) On "A Thousand Suns" in particular, I feel like the swear words are well-placed, a far cry from the "LOOK AT ME I'M THE GUY FROM LINKIN PARK AND I'M SWEARING" that we heard all over "The Rising Tied"

I'm surprised people still think using profanity somehow means you're being unintelligent or not creative.

Sometimes there's nothing like a good "fuck" to prove a point.

    Amen.

Nothing like a cuss word to deliver a breakdown.

    See: 3:15 onwards.

Yeah because "try to catch up muddafucka!" "fuck it are you listening?" "talk alot of shit and yet ya don't know" were much more mature and well placed.

I honestly don't see the problem in cursing, if it's used in the right way and doesn't feel forced.
    Example:
"I'm my own casualty; I've fucked up everything I say, fighting in futility".
This line feels genuinely angry and adding "fucking" kind of adds to the alliteration "fighting" "futility."

I remember when Minutes to Midnight came out, and at the time after the first two releases, everyone was pretty set on the band not using that kind of lyrical content. Then Minutes to Midnight released (leaked) whatever and once people found out about the explicit label some people shit the bed in a bad way here.
