Some say the best way to get over a dramatic experience in your life is to express yourself in the best way you know, and for me its in the artwork I make. Turning The Pages
A lot of artists do take emotion into their art. Art is an expression, in my opinion, and I know for a fact, being an artist myself, that every art piece should have some type of expression behind it and I think Derek did that very well . Derek, great job. Anger/disappointment is a great emotion to pull from to create art because it's usually an uncontrollable feeling so the art of this sort is some of the greatest to ever view because it's usually a raw emotion/feeling .
I shrunk the pen a lot and made the tape not overlap the pen, its so much better looking now. I suggest anyone who saw the original to look again.

I saw the original and saw a big ass pen in the bottom. I'm like, WTF? I'm not too fond of the lyrics but I must say this is great art, Derek. Keep up the great work.
Paperclip was a brush and http://www.sxc.hu is where I go a lot to get pics, maybe you'll have luck there.
You can . Your artwork is already good, you just need to practice and try some methods you've never thought of before, just like I did. Keep in mind it took me four years of practice to get me to the point I am now. This hardly was a piece of cake to accomplish *laughs*, took a lot of reading up on techniques and the like. People may argue that brushes are critical but if you ask me? Stock photos are the most importart part of any piece, you need amazing stock to have an amazing artwork, nuff said.
