Okay.. some feelings I have about the news.

I don't know about you all but personally I hate the news. It just seems to me that all they want to do is to get viewers by giving them something to hear about that is dangerous or scary or just weird, something that is bad but still will strike peoples interest. They want to show people the blood, to strike fear. For what though? To warn people? How is telling people that someone got murdered while walking to school in Texas going to help a kid that has just started 4th grade in some other state? It's just going to scare the shit out of them. How does it help, really? I want to know. Do they just want the money from viewers somehow? When I do watch the news I just end up being depressed or scared of something or another and it's not just once and a while it's all the time, every time. Even when I hear about something good, right after there just HAS to be something bad to tear apart my hopes and good feelings. Thus I don't really watch the news that much because I rather livee my life not knowing what happened all the time than always be in constant fear. I think it's stupid a lot of the times and to give out information that doesn't really effect everyone, or to give out information to people who might actually want to harm a country by getting info off the news and things like that. Doesn't really make any sense to me. Anyway that's how I feel kinda (I can't really convey my true feelings on this subject because I don't know how to express it  ) anyway What are your feelings about the News?

I pretty much stopped reading and watching it all together. I always end up feeling frustrated. It's good for the weather and such but for the rest I can't care really. I know it sounds harsh but when I hear somewhere that in Iran or Pakistan or anywhere over there a bomb exploded and killed people, I'm thinking 'okidoki, what's next?', cause it happens there all the time anyway. I feel that lately the news just likes to bring sensation and terror to the people, I'm tired of it.

It's all about what brings them the highest ratings (or sales). More people tend to watch when the blood flows, unfortunately.

They're all sadistic bastards with the mission of instilling fear and mistrust in everyone. That's the only way they can keep getting people to keep watching for more, because people want to know if they'll be safe or not, if the conflict resolved well, or whatever. A lot of people believe anything they hear and take it without questioning too, so they can easily spread propaganda too.

What disgusts me most about the media is how in the US they side on politics. I think the news should be a completely unbiased source of information, and accurate too. In order to keep their ratings high, I'm sure a lot of outlets rush a story when they get the slightest lead on something. Even if they hardly know anything about the story.

It's a sad sad world out there...

I tend to use the less sensational news sources, like the BBC's websites, although they're not always totally bereft of it either. Still better than scrot like the Daily Mail though. Ironically, I think people seem to be exaggerating a little bit in this thread in regards to the extent to which this happens. It's not like every single news programme and every single newspaper is trash.

There is a lighter side to sensationalism as well, like when there's a slow day at a local newspaper and something totally insignificant and mundane manages to make the front page.

Yeah, I remember discussing this in a course I was taking. What I really hate is how when news gets slow, they will find something and twist it to infer that it is much worse than it actually is. For example: Shark Attacks. When news gets slow, they turn to sharks eating people to get viewers when truth is that the number of shark attacks arent actually multiplying at that time...its just something scary to report to get attention

Yeah, that's one of my main gripes with the U.S. media; political pundits have gotten way too popular. Many people would rather get their news and opinions from those shmucks than hear the facts and actually formulate their own opinion. It drives me to extreme levels of cynicism, haha.

    The news?

"We're all going to die, we're all going to die... We don't know when, we don't know why... It could be now... or now, or NOW! OR NOW OR NOW!!!"

That's the general impression I get.

I think it's good to be aware of what's going on. You can choose to be aware, or just turn your head the other way and be ignorant. It's your choice.

Sure, sometimes it feels like all they have to say is depressing stuff, but it makes you aware that yeah, someone IS crazy enough to kill a little kid on his way to school in Texas.

It's important to know all the scary shit that happens beacuse you never know when something like that could happen.

It's not a point I was thinking of but at least you aren't being all "OMG EVERYTHING IS BAD".

i ,personally, hate news .. i neither watch'em nor listen to them .. i mean, sure you need to be aware of all that's goin on around you n all, but you sittin infront of the tv n sayin "oh jee, that's so horrible" won't stop it from happenin or change the fact that it actually is horrible ..

i'm not sayin that i have no clue about what's goin on around me, but i don't see wut differnce it'd make if i didn't .. coz you can't really change wut doesn't see the need to be changed, so why botherin ?

    it's just an opinion ..!
