Well, despite a few pages of replies..the original thread fell off the face of the earth (aka to the fourth page of kickback) so I decided I'd just make a quick part two so I can post the new information. Original Thread Here Official Title: Tomb Raider: Legend Platforms: PC, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PSP Developer: Crystal Dynamics (first time developing Tomb Raider) Release Date: Q2 2006 Official Site: http://www.tombraider.com Latest Screens (As of August 24th, 2005) MORE SCREENSHOTS HERE Confirmed Storyline/Features/Game Mechanics - Save points are at checkpoints and only before difficult high risk situations, making for a bigger challenge. - There are multiple ways to complete the puzzles in the game, giving the player their own options as opposed to making the game completely linear. In one instance, a pillar can be knocked over to 'unjam' a mechanism by either shooting at it with a turret, throwing a grenade towards it or swinging towards it with a rope to knock it over with her feet. - If the player is completely stumped after five minutes Lara will either look towards the area you are supposed to go, or give a vocal hint as to what you should make her do. - The camera will always adjust to give the player the best possible view of the situation. However, shall the player need a better view, the camera is easily controllable to the player's needs. - Crystal Dynamics are aiming to give three POVs for this game: The classic third person view, a viewpoint through her binoculars and an 'over the shoulder' action cam much like in Resident Evil 4 or Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. - This is the most personal Tomb Raider to date, directely delving into Lara Croft's past, what made her become a Tomb Raider and her relationship with her family. Players will also be able to revisit the plane crash in the Himalayas which Lara narrowly escaped with her own life (as mentioned in the Tomb Raider 1 manual). - Lara will wear a bluetooth headset to communicate with the tech team back at her mansion for various purposes. - Speaking of, not only will the mansion be playable in Legend (for training), it has also been redesigned to match Lara's new moves as well as the next generation graphics' systems. Here the player will see more of Lara's personality as she interacts with the butler and her tech team whilst situated there. Crystal Dynamics have also hinted at a few surprises in the mansion (perhaps a few secret hallways? ). Furthermore, Xbox owners will have the added feature of a "jukebox" in which through the Xbox's harddrive capabilities they will be able to play their favorite music in Lara's mansion. - Secrets will return in this game and must be 'combined' at the end of the game, for a (not yet) revealed gift. - In an ode to the older games, Lara's trusty 9MM pistols will still have unlimited ammo however she will still reload after each cartridge is spent. This means that Lara will have to take cover whilst reloading, to avoid being shot to death. There are many other weapons (with limited ammo) that Lara can use in addition to her pistols, but in a hint of realism she can only tow one other weapon (inside or attached to her backpack) with her at any time. This is to get rid of the unrealistic 'infinite backpack' and 'walking tank' mentality of the previous games. - Lara can pick up any weapon her fallen enemies drop, but as stated before..she will only be able to carry one extra weapon at a time. - Crystal Dynamics are aiming to have all of her availible inventory visible on her body to eliminate game-stalling inventory menus. This means if you see three grenades attached to Lara's belt, you only have 3 grenades in your inventory. -Some of Lara's new gadgets include a magnetic grappling hook, a automatic lamp (attached to her headset), a pair of binoculars and a bluetooth headset. - Enemy AI is said to be extremely smart. Enemies will be able to hear your footsteps, realistically duck for cover and call for backup. Taking influence from war games, enemies will also take your 'flank', pinning you down behind cover while additional units surprise you on the side. This will make for a very challenging combat experience. - Lara is equipped with paralyzing melee moves. One of which is sliding into an unexpected enemy, knocking him off his feet and firing at him before he lands. - Much like in its predecessor, players can sneak up on enemies and hide in the shadows to avoid being seen, although stealth is not a neccessary asset to the gameplay. - There will be three targeting modes. Pressing the fire button will make Lara freely shoot a line of fire, whilst enabling the combat aim will make Lara automatically target on targets of interest. In this mode, button icons will appear above targets and destructable scenery (such as a gas barrel) in which a simple tap of that button will make Lara fire at that object. Lastly, using the 'over the shoulder' point of view..players can aim much like in a first person shooter. Likewise, the game will be very customizable when released..giving the option to disable those notifications and so forth. - Lara will spin around a grab a ledge to avoid death, and will reach out one handed to grab a nearby ledge if it is close enough in an attempt to grab a hold of it. Additionally, Lara can now grab onto rocks or ledges at an angle (like in real life, instead of the fake straight on like in the old games) eliminating the need to perfectely line up the jumps every time. - Lara is now much more human. Players will see muscles flexing and soiled/soaking wet clothing depending on what they guide Lara to do during the game (as well as possible slight scratches/cuts on the skin). Lara's eyes move according to the camera and she is said to have an a very advanced facial expressions system, acheiving character realism as great as what can be found in the game Half Life 2. Additionally, Lara has several quirky idle animations, some of which include wringing out her hair (after swimming), adjusting her holsters and leaning up off her toes to stretch. - The game's soundtrack has been individually composed to meet the game's every scene...making for over 120 minutes of music. Prodigy is also said to be submitting tracks to the game. - Lara will have over 3 costume changes and will be visiting areas like Peru, Bolivia, Russia, Tokyo and much more.. That's a long 'quick part two.' Thanks for the info! [/b][/quote] I got carried away XP. Anyways, watch the Bolivia movie. Yes the quality of the video is shit, but the town she runs through in the beginning is very realistic. Oh also, high quality versions of the first two movies (or at least one of them ) are expected to debut on the official Tomb Raider site next week.
Wow, those screens look awesome. I might think about buying this game pre-owned seeing as i'm not a huge fan of the tomb raider series (that god damned shimmying) This looks as though it will do the series proud
Well I think she'll still be doing that "god damned shimmying" (as shown in the one gameplay vid) but what's cool about this game, is she can apparently do a sideways jump and grab the ledge a couple of feet down (not meaning below but to the left/right of her) instead of shimmying that far. I'd say that's bound to save us..what...3-5 minutes right there? There's a lot of innovations in this new game that just...make sense. This is a new developer (fuck Core Design!) and some of their new additions are just so logical that you can't figure out why they werent there before.
