I'm surprised we don't have a thread for The Weeknd yet. The Weeknd (AKA Abel Tesfaye) is a Canadian R&B recording artist and record producer. He released three mixtapes last year called House of Balloons, Thursday & Echoes of Silence which were all downloadable for free from his website. They have since been taken down and last month The Weeknd released his album called "The Trilogy" which contained remastered versions of the three mixtapes with three bonus tracks. I'm glad more people are getting into his music because he has an amazing voice. He has a ton of other songs too so check him out if you haven't done so already. The most well known track by The Weeknd is probably "Wicked Games": This is one of my personal favorites: Other favorites include "Twenty Eight", "High For This", "The Party & The After Party", "Enemy", The Birds Part 1 & 2 and "XO - The Host". This mash-up of "Dirty Diana" featuring MJ and The Weeknd's cover is pretty cool. They sound a little similar at times, imo. Any The Weeknd fans here?
One of those cases where I've heard a lot songs and liked them, but never bothered to listen to the albums/mixtapes. I'll get on that ASAP.
I only just listened to Trilogy about a week ago and it's all gold. It took me so long to check it out because I had heard of The Weeknd before, but always thought it was an indie band
I haven't been too inclined to check out "Trilogy" yet because the remaster of "Wicked Games" (my personal favourite by The Weeknd) didn't quite pull me in. I've been bumping The Weeknd's tunes since last December, though, and I'll happily buy an album of brand-new material when that happens, I guess.
"Wicked Games" is all over the radio here in Canada, which is weird because slower songs like that usually don't get airplay here. Nice to see another Canadian recording artist rising to prominence!
Isn't "Wicked Games" censored like a bitch on radio? The censoring of that song annoys me, but the original version is definitely one of my all time favorite songs now.
I've been listening to "The Zone" (feat. Drake) flat-out lately.
I really can't get into his music. To me he embodies that "get drugged out/drunk in the club/string of one night stands/then write a songs about them/YOLO/hipster/hashtag/Drake" crowd. Plus I'm really not a fan of RnB singers cursing in soft buttery voice. Huge turn off.
I went through a stage recently where I played "The Zone" nonstop too. Lately I've been listening to The Birds (Part 1) and The Birds (Part 2) a lot. Nice.
I don't buy CDs. That being said, I ordered "Trilogy" a few nights ago because I fucking love the Weeknd so much. "High For This" or "What You Need" are my favorites. He's surprisingly really good live, too.
