So last night I went to Best Buy and picked up their CD: In Love and Death after hearing the song I Caught Fire and I basically fell in love with it. For the longest time I used to not give the band a chance because of Berts voice, but upon hearing the CD I purchased I actually have grown to like it. Can anyone suggest the next CD by them I should try out? Is their new CD any good? I havent heard any singles for it so Im curious. I need suggestions =). (Again sorry for the lack of apostrophies, im on a proxy that fucks up my text if I put quotation marks or apostrophies).
The Used is awesome. I've seen them in concert, they do not disappoint. The new cd is their best by far. Each cd you can tell they progress a little bit more. They have three singles from their new album: The Bird and the Worm, Liar Liar (Burn In Hell), and Pretty Handsome Awkward. (Gerard reference anyone? ) I personally like The Ripper (Time kills, go ask Jesus ), Hospital, and depending on where you buy the cd, the bonus track Slit Your Own Throat (Best Buy, I think). Does this help? lol. I hope so... I'm done ranting now! Oh and about the lack of apostrophies, fear not, its okay! lol.
Im just so shocked that with how popular The Used happens to be with the MTV crowd, that I have not heard anything from their new CD yet...or maybe I have and I just didnt realize it. Hmmm... Just to confirm, what is the name of it?
Lies for the liars. MTV is crap anyways. I'm sure you can find the videos on YouTube, so check them out!
Derek, definitely check out Lies for the Liars, it's a great album but make sure you get the B-sides too. There's a lot of them. The S/T one is pretty great too.
The Used are amazing. I'm shocked that you're just now hearing them though? lol. Uhh.. the self-titled is brilliant. In Love and Death is okay, but not anywhere near the first. And Lies for the Liars is one of my favorite albums of the year.
Thanks guys! I think I might end up really getting into this band. A little late sure, but In Love and Death is GREAT.
i remember sending you "maybe memories" and you loved it good times... anyway, just check out all of their albums, there is not one let down in their discography.
I've only heard "The Bird & the Worm" and "Pretty Handsome Awkward", both singles from Lies for the Liars, and they're both really good tracks. I've been thinking of looking into one of there CDs, I just haven't done it yet. maybe I'll get around to it today.
Both CDs don't disappoint. In Love and Death is by far the most pop oriented (I'm actually shocked you can listen to it and *not* think they'd be popular on MTV). The Self Titled is more straight forward, harder and rawer, while their most recent is in between the two in terms of poppiness and features a lot more variation and uses some horns and other less common instruments. I liked the lyrics on it less than on the first two though.
I said they WERE popular on MTV lol. Thats why I am shocked I didnt hear anything from Lies for The Liars yet. Im definitely gonna check into that album when I get home.
If you decide to check out their first CD, it's a lot more raw and under-produced compared to In Love and Death and Lies for the Liars. There's also a lot more screaming and it was really a breakthrough record for the Screamo genre. Lies for the Liars though, is a more solid album, so I'd recommend that. And like someone else said, pick up the B-Sides because they don't disappoint. Tunnel is a beautiful slow song, that they actually recorded inside of a tunnel and the echoing of Bert's voice adds a lot of depth to their song. If you want to preview some of the tracks go to their myspace. www.myspace.com/theused
QFT. Especially the Gerard reference Lies For The Liars is pretty damn great, I agree, I think it is the best so far. I just can't get enough of Liar Liar (Burn In Hell), Pretty Handsome Awkward, The Bird and The Worm, Paralyzed.. argh.
Their first albums kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, and that's saying something since I don't really listen to this type of music (screamo or whatever you want to call it ). I don't really like anything after that, though.
So me and Andrea are listening to it for the first time together (their new album) and I must say I'm shocked. This is way different for them.
Yeah, they did branch out. A lot of bands seem to do that on the third album (LP, MCR...). Is it a good shock?
Personally S/T by a very long way is the best. I first bought ILAD and then S/T (way before latest came out) and I much prefered the punky screamo raw sound (which isn't a very good way to describe since most of that music is crap) on the first although ILAD definately had some great songs (SE&OD, Listening, Let It Bleed, I'm A Fake and All That I've Got (Def.) to name a few). Personally I think their third is by far the worst, it's too over produced in some parts, too many effects on some songs, and the lyrics get a bit... crap? at times. I believe I'm in the minority though because IMO The Ripper is absoulute crap. There are still some great song though (Paralyzed, Hospital, Wake The Dead). In conclusion to my pahthetic rant, get S/T. Best Songs: Buried Myself Alive, Bulimic, BFOSO, Blue and Yellow, Taste Of Ink, Maybe Memories, Greener With The Scenery and On My Own, rest are great as well (lol reading back the rest is only 4 songs).
